1 - Marc-Andre ter Ansplant

Horatio

You're welcome
He places too much emphasis on judging and guessing where the ball will go rather than actually momentally responding to the shot with reflexes.

It's that or other keepers simply judge better. Meaning that other keepers go through the same guessing-process and take as long as Ter Stegen does, only their responses consist of dives more often because their better judgment deem it necessary.

Anyhow...he is been solid so far this season. My focus is on him improving during corners.

He has good passing, 1v1 and close range stops; but if you can't see his obvious problems with crosses and Mr. Freeze syndrome, you've convinced yourself so hard that he's the best we can do that you refuse to be open to the suggestion that he has big flaws in his game currently.

Let's be real - he is nowhere close to the level of De Gea, Buffon (even at this age), Neur, etc - who are the elite keepers in Europe. A team like Barca should keep looking to find that elite keeper who's going to serve us the next 10 years, I sure can't see MATS being the one.

He isn't terrible, and so isn't the immediate problem, but I'd like to believe that there's some work going on in the background, identifying a truly world class keeper as and when the opportunity arises. Seeing our scouting and management, highly doubt that though.

From the interview with MD ahead of his 100th Barca game today.

Quotes taken from FCBdaily & Barcastuff_

- Stegen: "Best match? Against Madrid last season, there was a lot of work to do, not only for me but for the whole team."

- Ter Stegen: "My best saves? There are a couple that I like, but specially those which helped to win. Like against RM, against Kroos and CR."

- Ter Stegen: "Hardest strikers I've come up against? There are 2 or 3 names. Lewandowski, Benzema and Aduriz, they've done a lot of damage to me."

- Ter Stegen: "The best goal scored against me? Marco Asensio's (in the Spanish super Cup)"

- Ter Stegen: "Most complicated rival team? It was against Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Super Cup of 2015."

- Ter Stegen: "Most complicated stadium in which I have played? San Mamés."

- Ter Stegen: "A rival that I liked was Guillermo Ochoa from Granada. I did not know him and he is very good."

- Ter Stegen: "Superstition? I do not have anything before the game, but I do not like anyone to wear my gloves."

- Ter Stegen: "But there were other special moments like the comeback against PSG which was a spectacle at the stadium and people went crazy."

There's no work being done. Mats is our keeper. He has his problems and doesn't have the consistency of a world class goalie, but he's good enough.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
He needs to communicate with his defence

There was only one miscommunication with Piqué near the end of the match, and even then, I wouldn't blame it on ter Stegen... Getafe was putting pressure on us, Piqué has been shaky lately and well, sometimes it happens...

There is really absolutely nothing to complain about his game today...

One can rely on cules to make up a name for a problem they invented.
What the fu** is "Freezing"??!!

Today's goal, CR and asensio's goals all were powerful shots with fast speeds and with an almost impossible way to judge their trajectories.
The only way I see them being saved is by Marc already figuring out where the ball is headed before actually seeing where the ball is headed, AKA psychic abilities, Which will make him the most valuable footballer in history, I mean how much of a price someone will give to a player that can see the future. :worthy:

He is nothing but an average keeper. Been following Barca ardently since the mid 90s and there hasn't been more overrated goalkeeper here.
