I hope he leaves in June with another triplete. Awful handling of this subject by VV...barça did not deserve that...

I don't agree...If we're to believe the early reports on negotiations, the club wanted to wait until the end of the season to announce it jointly...To leak it out now benefits whom?...Only the player/agent...Very douche, IMHO

Gotta wonder what other issues were at play because this is particularly odd or heavy handed from a cantera player...I can't see how it won't turn the fans against him if not the club or coaching staff which would expedite his exit...Perhaps that was the goal?

I should have made it more precise. I meant that it was good that he told the club about it early enough so there's more time to consider proposals for him.
And you're completely right, broadcasting that to the media this early was a dick move, although I see it more as an act of self-preservation. Fluctuation of goal-keepers isn't that high and he has to keep potential bidders interested. Still douchy though, especially considering his cantera background.

Don't brink Enke into this. Enke doesn't even have 5 caps with Barcelona. He got treated like shit under van Gaal. He was supposed to be the reserve goalkeeper. Then suddenly van Gaal decided that 20 year old Valdes was a better fit before again reconsidering and putting Valdes back into Barca B. Then he gave him his debut against a third division team which Barcelona lost by 3 goals and Frank de Boer blamed Enke publicly for the loss (talk about a healthy team chemistry, eh?). His depressions already started back then. Those circumstances are surely not a proof that Enke failed because of a lack of ability to be a goalkeeper for Barcelona.

Hesp was the third choice goalkeeper of the Netherlands. We bought a 32 year old third coice goalkeeper. ROFL.

Same shit with Bonano. We bought a 31 year old guy who had never played in Europe before.

These guys don't prove Valdes' superiority. They show that Barcelona only bought scrubs in the past.

Exactly. Thank you!

Valdes is a good fit, but doesn't mean he is perfect for Barca and the best possible keeper we could get.
People always say the same to defend Valdes against the criticism: "since Zubi we had not had any good keeper". It's because we were retarded on the keeper market, nothing else. Valdes is the best since then, but it's hardly an achievement considering who Barca has bought.
Valdes is great don't get me wrong, but he has one of the best teams of all times in front of him, with ball possesion as high as 70%

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Now that I think this through I think I have discovered why VV won't renew...

All along we've though that our forward line was threatened by the incoming of Neymar, but behold:

VV has contract until 2014, and Neymar has said many times he will leave Brazil in 2014... Makes perfect sense!

Tito weighing in:

"I've spoken with him and I would like it if we respect his decision to play where he wants," the coach told reporters at a press conference.

"We have to respect him, he is our goalkeeper and while he is with us we will have to help him and it would be nice if he could have a good exit from the club. He deserves it for everything that he has given to the club.

"He didn't say that he wants to go, he said that he doesn't want to renew his contract. There are people that will think that he is giving the club time to sign another goalkeeper and other people that will think that he has left us with a problem.

"During the last few months I have seen him be very happy, I don't think that he is upset with us. This is not about money, talks didn't even start.

"We all have the right to play in other cities, other cultures, other teams. It doesn't upset me at all because I know he is professional, that he will continue to work.

"I don't know if we will sell him in January. We haven't had time to think about anything. Nobody wins if we don't help the player. The best thing to do is to help and protect the player.

"I don't know if he will change his mind. I have spoken with him today and I don't know if his decision can be reversed.

"The only thing we know [for now] is that he will not stay after 2014.

"It's a shame because I believe that he's the ideal goalkeeper for Barcelona. I respect his decision and it doesn't upset me. He will continue to help us win matches.

"My feeling was that he would renew. It's clear I don't have a future as fortune-teller!"

But Vilanova is confident that the club will be able to find a replacement, even if they have higher standards than other teams.

"I understand that there are people who think this is not a good time for him to go, but he gives the club a long time to find a replacement for a very difficult position," he continued.

"The margin we have [until he leaves] is a year and a half, and that's not bad. The technical secretary is up-to-date and our scouts are following players around the world all year. There's no problem.

"There are good goalkeepers in the world, but here at Barca we require them to have something extra, that they don't just make saves. Passing is also important. It is a delicate position.

"I'm sure the club will find a great goalkeeper."

Good thing we let Tottenham buy Hugo Lloris this summer.

He won't be impossible to get, but he'll definitely be more expensive and harder to get than he was last summer (unless he's still on the bench...). And there's still Ter Stegen or Courtois.

All we can hope for is that Valdes goes out on top lifting trophies. Further reason to give him the armband if we win the CL in his final year :)

You have to be kidding. He announces he's leaving the club and does it in the middle of the season, leaves everyone baffled and Tito is supposed to reward him?

I don't know what to think of this? The majority of this forum hate on him (before this was made official) and now that he wants to leave you hate on him even more?
He want's to try another club, so what? It's not like Iniesta, Busquets or Messi wants to leave - Valdes will be easy to replace, because most of you thinks he sucks anyway.
So, he gives us half a season so we can find a new goalie and also some cash for him.
