1. Victor's agent and negotiating for Casillas money.
2. The tit for tat played out in the media ahead of this announcement which reflects there was more going on than a feeling to test out new cultures/leagues etc
3. Barcelona is arguably the greatest club in the world, perhaps of all time, and have been experiencing an unprecedented era of hegemony with VV assured of his place in that legacy - leaving when there is no signs of a letdown reflects abandonment since any change would be a step down in sporting terms.
4. The timing is not only more than just poor but ill advised as even the club had wished to jointly announce it at the END of the season so as not to serve as a distraction - how much of a distraction does this make it now eh?
5. And by 'honorably' refusing to even enter into negotiations, Victor & his agent are effectively taking a heavy handed approach to pushing a transfer before 2014 since no player (Particularly a cantera one) is kept at the club who wants to leave - no dead men walking at FC Barcelona.

Not a very balanced or insightful take from Sid, IMO...Just seemed like an opportunity to slam the club which is reminiscent of journalists like Skip Bayless who simply look for angles to exploit/attack rather than report

First of all he's not attacking the club, but Sport and MD, two papers that have acted shamefully during the last few days. Now for your points:

1. Valdes agent never went for a salary like Casillas, he just said Valdes should be appreciated more, like Casillas is in RM. He's got reason to say so too.
2. We can't know yet, and as you said... in the media
3. Another reason to believe that he's not leaving for money, trophies or fame
4. I'll agree on this
5. If he's made up his mind, why would he negotiate? If he's not interested in more money. It's the logical choice if he wants to be free to choose a new club by 2014. I don't think he'll leave before that, unless Barca wants him to.

I dont see what the big deal is about, some of you act like its iniesta wanting to go.
Victor is a good keeper but he isnt irreplacable.
If he wants to leave then let him, we can get someone else.
Also the time is good, I prefer him saying it now rather than when the cl ko phase starts or in the summer.

This. Though I think what he should have done is let club officials know, and not announce it publicly until the end of the season. I believe that's what Guardiola did last year. Still though, better to announce it now than in the cl ko stages. Not the greatest timing, but could have been much worse.

IMO, this hurts him more than anyone else. He's gonna leave the best team in the world, and arguably one of the best ever, to either warm the bench or win jack shit (or both), for half of what he earns at Barca. Still though, his choice.

SELL NOW. Put Pinto in goal and aggressively pursue a WORLD CLASS keeper NOT a schmuck. A good idea would be Valdes plus 15 million for Lloris.

Barça needs a replacement, but selling now is just stupid. This season Valdes is important, next season we need a replacement. That's it.
And stop talking about stupid transfers as Lloris for Valdes plus 15M... He is a great keeper, some of you are mad because he is leaving and are being irrational.
