Calma, calma
I don't understand how anyone can score so many goals while still being average? I can only remember two great performances right now - vs Madrid and vs Deportivo. Yet I seem to put him in top 3 in MOTM thread after almost every game. And he is also leading the table by a huge margin. Are the standards just too high?

Yeah, I guess we're just used to him giving 120% and scoring hat-tricks all the time. The way he's been playing lately (and has been criticized for) is still by far superior to almost every other player in the world.

Messi has scored 26 goals in 20 official games so far this season #fcblive Last season he needed 22 games to score 26 [via @messistats]

Love Leo but that celebration is lame, he should stick to the one for his grandmother

He should stick to football and leave the gay celebrations to #7 (not Villa).

What happened to him this season its either 0 goals or 2 goals in the league. After the second he is always trying to assist someone else rather than score a hattrick, and I respect that.

He hasn't really gone full out that many times this season, just has those moments where he goes, "About time to get a goal, I think," and he puts one in the back of the net before relaxing again. At the end of the season, he'll be nice and fresh for those important games.

I think if we use a fresh eye as if we dont know who Messi was and also by adding to that the stats of pass accuracy, drubbles, through balls.. we find that he is actually doing good, Messi lets say when he was 21, 22 had more movement and tracking back often etc, but this current Messi has the upper hand when it comes to the most important stats "GOALS" , "ASSISTS", its probably just by him gaining alot of experience therefore obviously understanding pass timing, and shot placements way better!

Well put. Although one can understand why some people would be "disappointed" (for the lack of a better term) with his more passive style of playing now, it's obviously a part of growing mature and gaining experience as a player. It's important to keep in mind that he's incredibly efficient, and that's what matters most.

Barca play mesmerizing football, and many people are football lovers as opposed to lovers of a single club. In your own words you have admitted how easy it is to fall in love with barca

xaviniesta said:
basicly years ago there was a game, almost replica of yesterdays, that i fell in love with barca. they didn't win then either, but played basicly the same way. everybody said how useless all the possession was, only xavi said that were better but everybody lauged at him then. if i wasn't barca fan until today and saw that game i would fall in love with them again.

Football lovers want to see good football and there is none better than Barca. Theres a big difference between a gloryhunter and someone who loves the game we all enjoy.

I think the main problem that began this discussion is that just a few months ago, Bolt was praising Ronaldo and claiming Manchester United was his all-time favorite club. Now you see him wearing Barca-themed sunglasses.

Still no hat-trick. How many braces is that now?

He has one against Depor. 8 braces in Liga +2 in CL.

13 apps (12 starts), 19 goals, 5 assists
- home: 6 apps (6 starts), 6 goals, 2 assists
- away: 7 apps (6 starts), 13 goals, 3 assists

and in all competitions: 20 apps (19 starts), 26 goals, 8 assists
with 17 of those goals coming away from home

furthermore he's scored in 70% of the games he's played in (14 out of 20) and there's only 3 games in which he has no direct contribution (goal or assist)...

also 5 goals in 6 games for Argentina this season

Best season start ever?
