For the record, I am a Barca fan and Messi fan and I think Ronaldo deserves to win the BD this year. However, I don't get it why you said Ronaldo was much better than Messi and by quite a distance. Care to elaborate?

It's quite simple really. Messi has been nowhere near his brilliant best, whilst Ronaldo has played better than he ever has.

The strange thing is, many Barca fans have been saying the same about Messi over the past few months, but now the Ballon d'Or is upon us, all of a sudden he's the best in the world again and deserves to win. It's not just Barca fans though I suppose, football fans in general are a strange fickle bunch.

Goals and assists, as I stated in my post. Messi is at 73, cr 74 after the last round. That is the much better year cr had over Messi, statistically speaking. Messi can very well end ahead. The media bias is ridiculous.

From the link posted Ronaldo is at 74 and Messi 73 with Ronaldo having played 7 less games.

So if I hear you correctly, you are saying because Messi was nowhere near his best while Ronaldo is having the best form of his career, therefore Ronaldo is much better than Messi? Your explanation doesn't make sense.

You are not comparing the two players, rather you are comparing each player against their past. Just because Messi is not performing at the absolute out of this world level right now, that makes him much worse than Ronaldo??

Once again, Messi has become a victim of his own success, he is being held against such insanely high standards and there are folks who don't even realize or acknowledge that.

This just shows Messi set the bar too high for himself. cr has not matched or overcame Messi because of this, as the media are trying to portray.

Barcelona have been in turmoil as well. As it is a team sport, Tito getting ill, Tata being underwhelming, the board we have, Zubizarreta, it all had an effect on the team and on Messi.

OK, again I am with you in terms of Ronaldo doing better than Messi in 2014. But again, you are still not telling me why he was doing MUCH better (by a distance) as you claimed.

To me Ronaldo was better but not much better. His team was overall better and won the CL, which benefits his BD case tremendously.

He scored twice against Bayern and tormented them that 4-0 win. He could easily had 3/4 goals.

He also scored and assisted against Atletico when clearly not fit. Not that he had a good game in the final.

In the games he was fit against Atletico last season he caused them more problems than any other player they faced.

Sorry, I know I am biased torward Messi, but cr at his peak is nowhere near Messi at his. That's just absurd to say. Messi didn't only edged it, he was really superior to any other player.

Wrong at what? You should start reading the conversation fully, before claiming anything. I don't think Messi deserves the bdor. I'm just stating that the media claim of cr having a much better year is bogus. Because it is. They're pretty much tied. Messi has played more games because his team wasn't sent home after the group stage at the wc, too.
