The problem is that Martino doesn't want him involved in the buildup as a false 9 and rather uses him like a normal 9 with Alves crossing balls to him when he's between 2 giant centerbacks.

Martino? Didn't you knew that Xavi is actually the one giving the orders? :VdB:

if he gains his form back, id give him 200€ million a year,

There's just no way. He's the best player of his generation, but is he the best athlete of all times? The most dominant? He's in the wrong business if he wants to become a euro billionaire. It's such an absurd amount of money.

Geez, isn't Xavi busy enough already mowing the Camp Nou grass?

Been going through some of your post and most time you get your analysis spot on! Anyways the season is gone, lets give the guys a break. . . Messi will be back to GOAT mode next season.

If Messi doesn't want to play because a) he is saving himself for the World Cup, or b) he is unhappy because of his contract, this is bad news and totally unacceptable.

His contract has nothing to do with anything.

Messi owes Barcelona as much as Barcelona owes him (if not more). There are many huge talents out there that didn't make it to this stage because they didn't have Messi's luck of being spoted by an institution like FCB.

He owes Barca more than Barca owes him ? Please....

This club never ever had the succes that it had in recent years and Messi is a big part of it. Barca played the same way it plays today in the last 2 years but the difference was that Messi was in great form and scored all the time out of nowhere, when the team needed it the most. If it weren't for him , we wouldn 't have won the last liga title , and had big chances of ending the season on the 3-5'th spot . He caried Barca on his back for the last 2 years.

And if you think that he wouldn't have been a legendary player because of Barca , you are delusional.

A 8 year old Messi made kids twice his size look like shit.

Sooner or later some other big club would have signed him.

I'm not so sure what he 'owes' to Barca?... They pay him lots of money, and he earns them lots of money. Football is a business and both sides are getting rich off of Messi's talent.

Both he and Barca got lucky that their paths crossed and he got his medical treatment. Barca were just as lucky as him for the chance meeting.

Messi would never be happy at another team. If City buy him he would hate the physical, frenetic approach of the EPL plus the lousy weather. PSG and France may be better but the league there is lukewarm and doesn't really enthuse a lot of the players.

If those ARE his financial demands they are ridiculous and we best sell him. 200 million and we can rebuild the team with at least FOUR world class players.

Can't believe the things being written about Messi, he has done so much for the club and for people to go against him just because he is out of form is very sad. He has played really well this year and has scored a lot of goals, for nearly any other player it would be a great season. He is not past his best, you can't just give up on him just because he is below his normal level, this is how sport works you have ups and downs, we should be pleased that Messi's down is still so brilliant.

In late 1966, the media were writing how the Beatles were finished, they hadn't released anything in 6 months and there was a backlash against them in the US after John Lennon was quoted as saying the were bigger than Jesus. Beatle bonfires were organised to set fire to their records and the group were given death threats. But their best was yet to come and the doubters all looked very stupid when they released Penny Lane/Strawberry fields and even dumber when Sgt Pepper was released. It is a good example of how the media in particular love to knock people down. It happens to most cultural icons, and now it is Messi's turn. It is such a pity that some fans are jumping on the bandwagon but all who are doubting him are going to look pretty stupid next season.

Dude if his wage demands are 400 mil for 4 years he is the only one who's going to look stupid.

Just like we did when we sold Figo to Real Madrid..

Does he not get a wage increase every year?

He's constantly extending when he has like 3-4 years left running

Really? Can you tell me the last time he extended before 2013? I think that you will be surprised to find out that since 2009, he extended his contract as many times as Xavi.
