Danger Ahead
I don't think Messi is his 90 goals a season form, but a lot of what's happening to him has to do with just the putrid form of the entire team and the total inability of other forwards to even present a remote scoring threat to take heat and defenders off him.

Exactly, you remember trio Henry-Eto-Messi, defenders didn't know from where the threat will come, now compare that to Pedro-Messi-Alexis, now defenders thinking "defend Messi and don't worry about others". If we won't buy a striker who can be selfish and a real threat we will be talking about this again and again - "why Messi didn't save us".

He is not isolated because he walks during games... he's been walking since I don't remember when. People complain about this for at least 3 seasons now. He was walking under Tito, still was putting those crazy performances in the 2nd half of 2012, beginning of 2013, until he got injured. Barça does not play thru the middle anymore. There's no indicative that running makes one play good, or Pedro and Alexis would be the best players ever.

Not like this. Even the media made fun of his distance covered against Atletico. That didn't happen before.

How do you know? Back then he was scoring for fun, and the teamplay was way superior to now. He was scoring, so not many cared if he walked or not. It's getting highlighted now because the team is so poor, he isn't able to bail us out as he used to. His play is also poorer, but that's not just because he isn't moving. It's a snowball down the hill... the problems accumulated and now this is what we see in the pitch.

Yeah, let's blame it all on lazy Messi. He's clearly past his prime. SELL HIM!!!

With an competent coach we'll see the real Messi at the WC, and (under Lucho) next season at Barca too.

Hopefully the team will ignore Tata's cross-at-all-cost-tactics versus Atleti and play as they should. Trough the middle, involving Leo as much as possible.

For example, Messi ran almost 9.5 km in the 2011 CL final against United. He ran under 7 with Atletico. That difference is huge -- almost 30% less in the game vs Atletico Madrid.

So you're gonna nitpick from 1 single game and compare it to another?

I can't wait until we get new players and maybe a better coach for next season, all you people hating will be quiet its gonna be great.

also to you people that dont think bad team performance correlate with bad messi performances, pssssst please:lol:

messi has always ran this little since i dont know 3-4 years back now that the team is playing shitty as a unit everyone blames messi for being lazy? where were you guys 3 years ago god

His touches dimished more or less by the same amount. Messi starting running like a headless chicken wouldn't make Barça play better right now. Or Alexis and Pedro would be outshining him.
It's also not a fair comparion, the one you made. The 2011 team was the best team, everything was functioning properly. The current team is not even a shadow of that.

And people still miss the point. No one says he is shit.He is just LAZY.

Have people ever wondered that the reason for him not moving much might be tactical?

But noooooooooooooooooooooo

Lazy messi. Bad messi. Run like a freaking wild horse. That will make people happy. They only want to see you run. Screw the fact that you running wont change much as you wont get the ball in good positions anyway, but atleast he wont be lazy eh?

I don't want him to walk when the ball is 5m away from him. Period. If you agree, OK, if you don't, still OK.

Messi was never a real part of the pressure system. He sometimes pressured the gk, or the defenders, but he seldom went back to the defense to help.

It would be interesting to see our record with and without Messi this season. People say he scores so many of our goals, and we are so dependent on him. I doubt it. Messi is supremely talented. He is getting complacent. He gets a new contract every single year. Why? Ronaldinho also were given a new contract every year. Hopefully Lucho can bring back the best Messi.
