He's been unhappy for a while now, would have left this summer even if he wasn't comvinced otherwise. We need the board to fuck off before the worst actually happens and he decides to go. We need a new project ASAP.

Very worrying statements from Messi. I don't know what triggered these comments, I don't think the majority of the board members want to sell him though. There is nothing to be gained from selling Messi. He is still the best player in the world, Neymar albeit getting better, still far from Messi's level. Selling Messi is suicidal for the current board, as it will be drawing the ire of socios and folks like Laporta, there will be huge outcry.

Nevertheless, the fact that Messi is so straightforward with these definitely shows there is something serious wrong. I pray that it will not resort to my worst nightmare of seeing Messi leaving Barca.

Real Madrid or Bayern.

I believe Messi is wise enough to know not to ever go to Real Madrid.

Rummenigge has indicated at least twice, if my memory serves me correctly that Bayern will not be paying that kind of money for players.

More plausible options are PSG and City.

God please don't let this happen.

What Messi needs is some political allies to work in his favor and use him as their champion. If Laporta can use the dissatisfaction of players and Messi and go on the attack against the incumbent board, some good can come of it.

If no one picks up Messi, I could very easily see the current leadership spin stuff like this against Messi and use it for their own benefit. It is what politicians would do.

Messi has enough allies within the team that will look to prevent him from leaving (practically everyone) and Laporta will surely try to gain something out of Messi's situation so he will also pick up on that. Sure they'll try to manipulate people's opinion and spin everything in their favour like they've done so far but I very very, very much doubt the socis will choose to believe a president who's been at the helmet for not more than a few months over a club legend like Messi. Selling Leo would be the last nail in the coffin for this board.

couldn't that be a factor as to why he made these comments in the first place? what i'm trying to say is that messi isn't that committed to barca anymore because he doesn't think that this team is able to win the cl anytime soon.

Yep and he knows that Alves will leave and Xavi probably will leave upcoming summer and with transfer ban coming we won't be able change much in the squad.

Hopefully it makes the board get their act together and actually buy Messi a midfield so he doesn't have to be Barca's midfield by himself.

Cesc and Alexis already left the sinking ship. The clever man that is pep did so before anyone saw what was coming.

Luckily we still have some very talented players but we also have a lot of has beens and mediocre players too. And a shit manager.

I wonder what makes Messi so unhappy?

The fact that we have deteriorated so much? Or something else? I don't want to sound like I am defending the current board, but Bartomeu has consistently said the right things about Messi is not for sale, he is the future leader of the club etc., and he got a hefty pay raise.

What does Messi want, in your opinion?

He wants a board that knows what they're doing and isn't corrupt with an agenda that is not in the interests of Barca. He wants some competent people around him, the players are good mostly but not organised very well. Even with the likes of Neymar and Suarez the squad could be better to give Leo a competitive team for all fronts.

Players of Leo's calibre don't want to hang about while people screw around. Careers are short and he wants to win as much as possible.

Wait, so we can't buy players but we can sell players during the transfer ban?

At this point, I am more worried about Messi wanting to leave/asking to be sold than the board selling him.

Makes sense.

But where else would he have a better chances of success than staying with us, other than Real Madrid and Bayern, which I don't think are possible?

Just speculation on my part but maybe he was promised by the board when he signed his latest contract the team would be competitive again and according to Balague he was promised by Luis Enrique he would continue to be the focal point of the attack. Maybe he feels those promises aren't being respected enough.
