Yeah, if you ignore that Dembele is 20 years old in his first season in Bundesliga. Already ranked as the second best, thats impressive no matter how you slice it. And that effects the price. We must stop this idea that signing 30 year olds for incredible fees make sense.

He's got the highest value in the Bundesliga with his age, quality and potential. We're hardly going to spend 100 million on Robben or Ribery at this point.

See, I am not denying Dembele's talent or potential. Just that the price cannot be considered low at all, especially when a 24 year old player was actually the best player of the Bayern Munchen team only a year ago! And the said 24 year old was actually sold for a price that was 500% lower than what we allegedly paid for Dembele!

Madrid are successful and set for the future because they bought so many talents

They're at the point where they don't have to fear Modric or Penaldo getting old because they're already planning fur the future. Compare that with Barca over Xavi and Iniesta, Barca who let Thiago leave when Xavi was on his last legs. Real on the other hand let Alonso go and bought younger midfielders, while Barca have acted like Iniesta will go on for ever.

The reality is, Real have learnt from Barca how not to do it.

Probably part of why talents are so expensive these days. There was a time when Madrid could grab Isco for 30m and Bayern could grab Gotze (who was very highly rated at the time, as in close to Neymar level) for 40, albeit through a release clause.

They've had some flops (Illarramendi and Danilo come to mind) but overall this transfer strategy of theirs has been very successful.

This cannot be overstated. I feel some still underrate the stupidity of this. It was easily the dumbest thing our board had ever done until the Paulinho transfer. Except pushing Pep out if rumors are to be believed. I was fucking furious when it happened because I knew we would have a midfield problem with Xavi on his last legs and we just threw away a ready-made solution. 4 years later, we still haven't properly replaced Xavi, let alone Iniesta who looks to be in his last season with us.

Only reason we're paying this much is because of the board's own incompetence.

They lost out every affordable young talent to Real Madrid and even lost what was supposed to be their golden goose for years to come. Club being in a difficult spot, desperate situation, players being concerned, manager demanding signings.

Had to do it.

I still want Bartomeu out though. Fuck him.

They were proven players, WC already

We paid 100m+ for Neymar most likely. That was a long time ago. From the Brazilian league. People need to wake up. Trying to sign superstars from rich clubs who are so-called proven is either impossible or ridiculously expensive. More so than signing from poorer clubs. Mbappe or Dembele will be the most expensive players because they are the quality players with the most potential who are available for rich clubs. Chelsea are not selling Hazard and City are not selling de Bruyne.

Best deal in football so far, made by dortmund, buying player for 15 m and one season after sold for 145 m

Barca is up there with psg and city, when it goes to buying players, so lets not laugh at them

To be honest, it probably makes a bit of sense to pay 145 for the best player of the Bundesliga...... But the second best among non-Bayern players!? Not so much

I agree.
If Barca wants Dembele and the club is finally able to get him, let it be. But shouldn't forget that his final 120-150M price is just and simply because of the Neymar deal.
His "2017 June value" would be around 40M.

My concern is a bit more on his professional or his accomplished qualities though. He is a young, fast, good player, playing in a team that is almost built around counter-attacks. His good speed was a nice thing there, but Barca's style is very different. He is still not a Neymar type of player (not as skillful and even not as fast). Thus, though I'd wish him the possible greatest success in Barca, if he comes, frankly and professionally speaking, I don't see the concept in signing a Dembele type of player, unless there were quite a few other changes as well, and a handful of changes in Barca's style.

If he is brought to complement Neymar's departure, then he is a bad choice in my opinion.
Unless Coutinho comes and by that there is a chance to overhaul the midfield this season, Dembele alone will not be a wonder-maker and even with him there are hordes of other factors to turn to Barca's advantage to play on the level of the 2014/2015 season.

Expectation will be extremely high for a player of 150 million, and I'm afraid Dembele is not surely the type of player Barca really needs.
Regardless his present state, Di Maria is much closer to the type of player this system requires to continue.
But this is just my personal opinion...

Barca is nothing like Qatar and UAE owned clubs. Just because over current board are useless fools that doesnt mean we are same shitholes like them.
