14 - Javier Mascherano

I just don't understand how everyone in the world besides those in-charge can see what terrible mistakes they're making. For example, buying another DM instead of a CB. I, for one, don't believe it's just a matter of bad judgement or intelligence or whatever. I mean, they can't be that stupid. I'm more inclined to believe these decisions are partly "political", for the lack of a better term. I wouldn't know how to put it exactly. But I do believe that someone somewhere has special interest in making a certain transfer happen. I know it sounds just as unreasonable as any other conspiracy theory, but I really can't think of a logical explanation for some of these terrible decisions the club has made. How does the club not see that we desperately need a CB, and don't need a DM? Keita left. Big deal. That was the perfect opportunity to give his spot to Mascherano and bring in an actual CB.

Verthongen would be good. Barça is not very good at signings except bring back cantera like Pique,Cesc and Alba.
Zlatan, chyngrisky, alexis etc....

Nope Pep era Barca was horrible at signings because player were bought and sold on "a feeling". Riikard era Barca which depended on logic was brilliant with signings

I don't speak Spanish, but I think it's something in the lines of "Can I hold him for a bit?", Shakira says yes, then Masche scores against Valdes with the baby. Because Mascherano keeps scoring against Valdes all the time.

I was never ever convinced with having a short DM starting exclusively as a CB so it's not a huge surprise that Masch is being found out now. The only reason why he was able to last for as long as he did was because of playing in a side like Barca who have 70% possession and where opposing teams usually sit deep which means there are so few opportunites for the opposition to put pressure on the Barca backline.

I remember getting slated here for criticizing Mascherano.

I like him as a player but it was a semi-pointless signing. Would have rather gone for Song as a 1st choice. Mascherano's attached buy out was equally mind boggling.

There were more than a few that got slated and had their loyalties questioned but I guess a lot of them were young fans who are more used to seeing average defending that we see these days in football. There are hardly great defenders anymore and so maybe their measuring stick is pretty low.

I agree that Masch wasn't a great signing. Song is already playing as a backup for Busi so it doesn't make much sense to keep him here next season. Somebody like him would do wonders in midfield for a side like say Chelsea who need him but I just don't like him as a defender. We need a proper CB who can also provide a more physical presence.

I don't understand this Mascherano-criticizing madness! This semi-pointless signing you are referring to, was a stand out performer in a Champions league final, with the team that conidered the best Barcelona team in history! At some point last season he was ahead of Puyol and Pique in the pecking order..
