This semi-pointless signing you are referring to, was a stand out performer in a Champions league final,with the team that conidered the best Barcelona team in history! At some point last season he was ahead of Puyol and Pique in the pecking order..

He has been bad lately. Song signing was a mistake to me. A true cb was needed, as masch can cover for busquets. Defense is Barça weakest link for a while, I really don't believe true professionals like Tito and Roura can't see that.

the fact is that i dont believe a team like barcelona has such a big problem in defense and they ignore it yet so much..i cant understand why the hell Song is bought,first of all we had Mascherano as backup but i dont know what they thought and they have him now as a backup for CB...for god sake...We spent so many money on Song instead of even using even more money if needed to buy a CB and dont use Mascherano again there...

I do not question his motivation and commitment to the team. He probably gives his 120% every time. Its just that for our style of play and the quality of our team, he is not a starter. An useful sub or replacement for regular CBs maybe not more than that. Unless we give Bartra some matches, he's gonna be inexperienced even when he is 30.

There is nothing wrong with our defense, We're getting more goals than last seasons because we are playing more direct now, We lose the ball more, And in result we get more counter attacks against us, We don't hold on or keep rotating the ball as much as we used to be, Our best defense was that.

Our defense is good when Pique and Puyol are playing together. I'd definitely rather not use Mascherano in the CL matches though.
Anyways, we should definitely be able to win the CL, as long as we play like we were playing 2 weeks ago. We should be back to that form by the time the CL matches start (yesterday's win was a good start).

1) We lost to Chelsea at home because of him. The goal scored by Ramires was a mistake of him. He does not know when to play deeper. He is always trying to push the attacker. Most of the time it works because of Barca's playing style. He collects most of the long balls. However a true CB should know when to stay deeper. And Masche is not a true CB so he fails in this kind of situations. If there was a proper CB Ramires would not find a space in that goal.
2) We lost Super Cupa 2012 to Real because of him.
This already makes 2 Cups. Also, his mistakes were one of the reasons of La liga 2011-2012 failure.
Please sell Song or Masche and buy a world-class CB.

We don't use 'true' CB, They are all required to keep a high line, Keeping a CB near the goal defies what our whole system is about.
Your post really sums up the reasons for this constant war at mashcerano, Which are Emotional reason, No one judges him on his day to day performance, But on some mistake he made that you didn't find a way to get over it.

We were using 'true' CB when Puyol was not dealing with injuries and was not slower. Puyol knows how to keep a high line with minimum risks better than Mascherano. Please watch Masch carefully in the Ramires goal again. He goes for Lampard. This decision is really risky. He should cover his area where Ramires is running. He has the reflexs of a DMC. Sometimes he is not keeping a high defensive line but he is broking that defensive line because of his DMC natural position reflexes.
If it was Puyol in Ramires goal, he would definetly leave Lampard to Xavi or Busquets and cover the area where Ramires is running. Keeping a high defensive line is a must. But deeper or higher you should always have a defensive line. Masch sometimes brokes this defensive line because of his natural position(DMC).
Barca is playing for winning trophies and started to lose these trophies because of this kind of mistakes. This is not an emotional reason, this is a logical reason.
This team should buy a proper CB which can play like a young Puyol.

Mascherano proves that a DM can't replace a natural CB. I dont have any new criticism for him which hasn't been said already. I dont know what is wrong with our management. What was the point in buying Song? We could have got Vertonghen and shifted Masch to being a backup for Busi. What's done is done. It cannot be unchanged. What can be done is giving Bartra more chances. Maybe some competition from him will inspire him. I don't think Masch can cut it as a CB. In the summer we must sell one of Song or Masch and buy Hummels or any good defender. Just hope Masch doesn't cost us more trophies.
