He cut through balls in space, but that has always been what he does. When he had to cover as a CB needs to, he got exposed. Balotelli out-muscled him as if he was pushing aside a paper bag.

Having Adriano to cover you also does not help him one bit.

He's just not the right man for that job, the times against Balotelli he just tried of tackling and whatever happens, and that's the point. That he pretty much doesn't have the understanding and reading of a situation like a CB has and goes first for the ball which is proved dangerous and doesn't work. Same like against Milan last year when he didn't read the situation well and lost the header that almost cost us a goal.

I really don't like him at CB in important games. His tackles are too much of a hit or miss. He has to know that sometimes it's better to just stay on your feet and wait for the attacker to make a move instead of just diving into the tackle.. I can remember him nearly flying out of Camp Nou when he tried to tackle Balotelli in the second half.

Well in important games it shows how a player can perform, and all the ''great'' talks about him this season are only from La liga and generally normal/small games, it's not something new that he doesn't perform and makes mistakes in big games. He will never be a total CB, just because he doesn't play with that kind of mentality as i already mentioned, and of course the already known problems, height issues and positioning decisioning and understanding of a situation problems.

Same here. I think tata could give Pique-Bartra a go, while Puyol isn't 100% fit.

Pique-Bartra has been the best pair so far this season. It isn't ideal because they are so similar, but it is the best we've got until/if Puyol returns to full fitness and form.

We should really sell him this summer and buy a natural centre back. So freaking poor against Ajax it's unbelievable. He's gifted the ball away 3-4 times and the fourth occasion Ajax finally scored the 2-0. It's not even the second half yet..

There's really no excuse for him tonight. Just piss poor. Another goal conceded because he gave the ball away.
