19 - Lamine Yamal

I think since he clearly wants to stay, we can low-ball him a bit with salary, but not too much. I'd give him 14 million euros, since Pedri is on 12.3 million. If we started negotiations with 18, they will fleece us.

Nothing wrong with him, but I expect a lot more discipline in defense when the big games come soon. Vs top teams, blocking the fullback runs are key part of off the ball duty as a winger.

Football is not only about tricks, backheels and fancy passes.

Of course, if he does like Vinicius and fucks teams up scoring multiple goals in CL key matches... then his defensive duties will be understandably less important.

It depends on many factors, but generally stars are stars after they cover themselves in glory. Champions Leagues, La Liga titles, stars win those by being decisive.

You are either a special offensive player that marks the difference when other players can't, or you're just a top young player that needs to put in a shift off the ball as well as on it. Doing neither is not an option if you aim as high as possible.

Yamal works hard in defence it appears to me. His pressing and tracking back are very good for most part.

There is no need to do that every game and when well ahead etc though.

Vini for past few years has been totally different often not tracking back as Ancelotti used him as the out ball to leave teams guessing on high line when Real won back early.

Last season Yamal was 4th in the team for tackles/interceptions of the regular starters in the league and this season he is 6th.

Both seasons he has been top for the forward in the team for tackles/interceptions.

Actually think it is something team could be set up for him to do less of if anything going forward and be fresher for when gets the ball.

Biggest talent in football is going to get commensurate wages, reality of the world - fact he is not even 18 changes nothing, only that he will have renewals that will likely make both Ronnie & Leo blush

PSR as been happening past couple years will prevent that. Helps if you understand what's going on in post-covid world, irreplaceable post-peak EROEI fossil fuels, and requisite demand destruction.

He's also already the face of the club... when you walk around Spain the Barca&Spain jerseys are 90% him. He has every right to demand top wages. And the club will pay it.

I surely don't tune in to see tractor try to play football either

Watch the economists in here tell you that he shouldn't be the highest paid player because he's too young.

Tbf there's nothing we can do really. He can fuck off to Saudi for 1 billion euros whenever he likes. Players have too much power these days.

The economists in here want to underpay our players by millions while also stay competitive and retain them.

Which unless that person is an idiot, you'll understand is not realistic.

Lamine is gonna get paid. Hopefully though we also get a 6-7 year extension out of it. Would be a fair compromise if they agree to it.

16m gross per year until 2032. Laporta would agree to it easily IMO. Then renegotiate in 2029 or 2030.

One thing I have noticed with him is that he always plays one of his better games against toughest opponents. Many players can really shine against weaker opponents but only the greatest players can bring another level to their game when it's truly needed.

You can't underpay him while at the same time you're building him to be the next big referrence point in world football. What you can do is pay him a nice wage comparative to the squad, but not extortionate, and for a long term contract. He should be paid about the level of Pedri, probably a bit higher. 8-9m net is probably where it's at.

He delivers in big games also. We're not talking about a situation like with Ansu Fati, he's far more proven at this point if you factor in his performances in the big games for Barca and his pretty amazing Euros. The situation is more similar to Vinicius growth at Madrid, except Yamal did it 2-3 years sooner.

Fatis contract was a disgrace. He had barely played in a year and never proven fitness after multiple knee issues with that injury.

Even a fully fit Fati before injury wasnt on same level as hype/ability as Yamal though.

The reality is if Yamal wanted to he has the club over a barrel but the agent and family will take it slowly with regular increases in salary.. keeps his feet on ground within the squad and also allows the club to provide better team around him.

Fati contract was indeed a big error by the club. Failed to properly evaluate the player's potential based on a very short sample size. With Yamal you have both a bigger sample size, and more signs that you indeed have en elite tier talent on your hands.

At this point, both parties need to solidify their relationship. The club by offering a competitive wage, to not low ball him, and the player to understand the club's financial difficulties and to not ask for absurd money.

It was the injury more than anything that made the Fati contract such a stupid gamble to take.

Felt like it came from a desperation for 'positive' news.

The absurd money will come for Yamal soon enough but yeah at this age it makes sense for both him and club to reign it in.

Yamal is arguably the best player in La Liga and for Spain and most marketable one out there. Huge, huge differences from where Fati ever was even pre injury.

You pay him for the same reason you paid, if you believe you have a potentially generational talent.

Give them the money.

He's 5x more confirmed than Fati was, so it's to be expected.

People need to stop whining about these wages and look at the context.

This ain't you trying to budget your home.

If his knees get fucked now, doesn't matter, at the time he's signing the contract, it makes sense.
