When the teammates don't pass the ball to someone, there is usually a reason.

They know him from the training grounds:
1. and they either think that he sucks as a player currently
2. or that he'll do some risky move like a dribble and cross and likely lose the ball so they are passing to someone who is less likely to lose the ball or ruin the action
3. or they don't like him as a person, due to his personality, hype or xxx

I remember a similar episode from a few years ago when young Halilovic played for us in a few preseason friendlies and the teammates were mostly ignoring him.
People also wondered why.
I am not saying that he will end up as Halilovic.
But there are probably some deeper reasons why the teammates are ignoring him for now (which is a huge contrast to how a fanbase sees him and his current abilities).

Other than being a left-footed gifted dribbler, Yamal is nothing like Halilovic. Much more creative and not a headless chicken like Halilovic was, who dribbled with his head down.

In that game, the real answer was because Yamal was marked tightly, and the opponent played with a back 5. So the moment he would receive the ball, the opponent was already less than half a meter away from him. That makes players in the center freer. My point was that Yamal can create something even in those conditions, and we shouldn't be afraid to feed him the ball. Xavi agrees.

Because they aren’t those type of players. Ferran has great positional play and when he isn’t instructed to hog the touchline, he can create havoc during fast transitions. We don’t play fast transitions. Our buildup play is wasteful and slow.

As far as Raphinha is concerned, his dribbling is wasteful and hesitant. But provides a real thread right outside the penalty box, oftentimes centrally. His long range shot is very good. So perhaps he’d excel as an AM.

Simply put, tactics are to blame, not the individual players. Our squad is one of the best in the world. It’s up to the manager to build his tactics around each player’s strengths.
