Nah we don't need him.Olmo has to come. First he is much better than Ferran and has X Factor as you may have noticed in the Euros.
Second, Gundogan is leaving sooner than later. 2 yrs or likely less. Who will play the advance role? Pedri? Unreliable though most likely better than Olmo yes.
Is Gavi playing there? Unknown plus I doubt it.
Is Fermin going there? Over Olmo? No.
Will Guille rise to the top and make it his spot. Unknown.
Basically in a 2 yr span or less we will be hard pressed to do better than Olmo in a 4231 playing 10.
Not to mention he will fit in quickly with a small amount of assimilation. We have to plan for the future in advance because clubs will take full advantage in the market if they know we absolutely need somebody. We can't be lucky with low release clauses for realistic good players.
Olmo instead of Pedri at AM (if its true that Flick was going to start Pedri there) is way bigger improvement than Nico for Raphinha at LW.He will be comfortably the best 10 at the club if he signs. If Flick wants to play with a 10, then it's not a bad signing. 26 is a good age as well.
The big worry is his injury problems.
Given our finances, he's 100% a luxury signing and I know you and I both agree we have other areas that require attention first. 60mil is currently a ton of money for us, so whether or not it's a fair price for Olmo is irrelevant to me. Would he be a better fit as an attacking CM than Pedri, De Jong, Gundogan, Gavi, Fermin etc....sure he could be, but we have decent players to fill that role already. LW, DM and lastly an efficient attacking FB are all crucial to balancing the team in comparison.Transfer fee isn't crazy, 60m was his buyout cause, won't get him for less, to be fair.
Whether we need him or not, is a different debate.
The way arm chair SDs are complaining about back up plans.
I except a list 10 deep of alternatives to Williams

If we really have 55+ to spend on Olmo (due to Nico declining the transfer or requesting ridiculous wages), spending that money on Merino or Frimpong (would likely cost around 65-70 for both) would strengthen the team so much more. The new rumors of Cancelo for 25mil is also worrisome, he's 30 already and can't defend for shit. His attacking output hasn't warranted the liability in defense, it would be a clear favor for Mendes. I rather sign no one than sign Olmo/Cancelo and save the money for next summer; just play the kids.
We've been linked with a few young players, that we missed out on, so clearly there is some scouting going on.I'd love if we just went out and scouted a potential option which fits our profile though to bolster the squad.
PSV signed Driouech for 3.5m.
A Faye for offense basically. Atleast to lesson the burden of hitting the big signings because we quite literally have nothing for the left wing.
