23 - Jules Kounde

We still have this old mentality that you can out possession an average defence.

Sure it worked in 2006 with the likes of Bronkhorst-Puyol-Marquez-Oleguer and in 2009 with Sylvinho-Pique-Toure-Puyol but that is a decade and a half ago now. Even Pep with 100m+ CB partnership and 100m+ FBs has evolved his thinking yet hasn't repeated a CL win outside of Barca.

If we want to win with quick anticipation and ball playing then Azpi (even in his advanced age) and Kounde are the right targets to be fair.

The question remains: is the defender of the 4th La Liga team so good?

Yes.

You have to look at the defender itself and not at the team's position. We signed a guy in Pique back in 2008 who wasn't even 4th choice at Man Utd. Kounde would be the best or second best CB in the club if he was signed.

Raphinha at 48 + 12 very tough performance bonuses is the best signing this club made in the last 5 years.

It is early, but Ferran may have been a hazardous call.

who would be better than him?

You really felt the need to nitpick didn't you

Depending on how you rate Araujo some would say he's better. I wouldn't, but to avoid a long discussion I thought it was better to say best or second best.

Nothing you can do about Kounde if Chelsea is giving him a big ass wage as reported. He is clearly not as pasionate about Barca as Raphinha was and we simply can't match Chelsea on money.

Depends how far apart the two offers are, I guess.

But it's understandable he would move to Chelsea for 4M a season more.

Are we as passionate about Kounde as we were Raphinha too though?

We will know how keen we are in spending on a CB by whether we go with an alternative if Kounde doesn't go through, or if "Pique is our new signing" and has never felt better.

Justifiably, no. And the 12-13m net wages are absurd.

We offered him half that.

Surely BS though. Why would Chelsea pay so much for Kounde with a transfer fee involved when they were willing to offer less to Rudiger.

As has been said, Kounde is already their 3rd option for CB and currently on a fraction of that wage in Seville.
