25 - Wojciech Szczęsny

Enough already. He is a huge liability. Pena is currently a better option.
I am not biased, as someone wrote, but... Balde's defense, he showed excellent reflexes, he panicked a bit twice, but it must be said that there haven't been so many balls to the goalkeeper for a long time, the defenders threw him into the deep end with several passes. Goal 1 - no chance, a strong, accurate shot, right next to the post. The second goal - well, I suspect it was more Atalanta's luck, Kounde's carelessness than Szczęsny's fault, what was he supposed to do, he went to the ball, the goalkeeper in such a situation has to widen his outline, so he stands low, legs wide, hands to the sides - it wasn't a shot, it was an unsignaled touch of the ball, so it's hard to call it Szczęsny's mistake. Apart from that, good and confident catch after the cross, good exit in front of the goal area. And now I'm waiting for the answers of the esteemed experts :D

And here is one of the articles after the match to confirm:

The whole world is talking about Wojciech Szczęsny. A clear signal for Hansi Flick
Barcelona cannot count their last Champions League match as one of the most successful, as they drew 2:2 with Atalanta. Despite conceding two goals, Wojciech Szczęsny can be pleased with himself. The whole world is raving about how the Polish goalkeeper played and has even started to compare him to... Marc-Andre ter Stegen. This is a clear signal for Hansi Flick that he was right. And a bad sign for Inaki Peni.
2:2. This is the result of Barcelona's last match in the group stage of the Champions League with the Italian Atalanta, which we wrote about here. There was no shortage of emotions, a lot was happening, but in the end neither team tipped the scales of victory in their favor. After this even match, there is no shortage of praise for Wojciech Szczęsny. Although the Polish goalkeeper conceded two goals, he kept his cool in many moments and showed incredible composure, which did not escape his fans on social media. His interventions are widely commented on by users from all over the world. And this is a clear signal to Hansi Flick that he was not wrong to give the Pole a chance. Inaki Pena, who now has to fight for a place in the squad, may be worried.

His passing was shit in first half, but otherwise good game.
First goal was a banger, 2nd one was 1:1 in a close distance and should have been saved by defense, got nutmeg but it wasn't a mistake of his.

Mathematically, the match wasn't won because of Szczesny, but it wasn't lost either and it could have been, had it been not for him.
Whatever shortcomings in this match ought to be found somewhere beyond the goalkeeping.

For the first rocket he actually came close to reaching. Don't think Pena would come anywhere near that and we all know what Ter Frozem would 'do'.
The second is really all on defense.

Made some very good saves, that I doubt Peña or MATS would have reached.

Conceded goals that they wouldn't have saved either.

So far, so good.

The second is very questionable from him, regardless of the defense shitting themselves as well. The attacker is way out of balance, almost half on the ground. Szczesny comes out thinking he's going to make a world class save, flails his big limbs and leaves the simples path to the goal open.

Ter Stegen doesn't leave space open between his legs. Has that blocking technique with one knee on the ground that has saved countless 1v1s.
