4 - Ronald Araújo

So little discussed about his continuity, I wonder where the player is mentally - seemed like he was guaranteed to be here his whole career, now unclear

Looking forward to his return

They told me Don Uruguayo was 'shit' last season and Rudiger was the best in the world because he won the Champions League.

Let's face it, people are shamefully using Araujo's sending off vs QSG to underrate his whole career. They have even convinced the people that selling the best centre back in the world is a good thing.

Could never be me. Don Uruguayo has my support till the end. The reactionary 'what did you do for me today' merchants cannot be allowed to be the most heard voices.

I'm a big araujo fan, but he's too injury prone to be the best defender in the world.

He's in the Pedri category, needs to stay fit and show what he's about.

Like in the title winning season..

So far many attacks have been thwarted thanks to a synced and great high line. It's hard as a TV viewer to say but I think Iñigo deserves a lot of credit for leading the line when to push up and when to fall back. That's also why his lack of pace hasn't been exposed either, because he hasn't had to track back that much due to opponents being offside.

With Araujo we will have plenty of pace to deal with balls behind the high line. But if the line is correctly placed, the pace won't be needed. I'm afraid Araujo doesn't have the defensive IQ to lead a line and Cubarsi lacks experience. So maybe the best pairing will be Iñigo together with one of the others.

I think Araujo’s contract situation will figure into it because otherwise there is only one gala pairing, Pau on left and Ronald on the right. Iñigo has been remarkable in his absence but all things being equal (including Christensen), Martinez would be a rotating CB

Yep!.

Araujo starts when fit, this constant QI/Smart thing fans here being up about players is so over played.

Martinez being fit and finding form, just simply means, now we have 4 defenders we can trust.

To think a top flight defender can't hold a high line is ridiculous.

The most important part of a high defensive line is staying compact and pressing.

The biggest issue like you identified is the situation with his contract.

He's not stupid cmon. You don't even need some massive IQ to do it.

Except Rudiger was a beast in the big games while Araujo shat the bed vs PSG.

Doesn't matter much if Araujo does better in the smaller games if he gets his team sent home after a huge blunder in the most important match.
