5 - Iñigo Martínez

I don't like this move much.

Inigo was one of my favourite upcoming CB's a few years back but he kind of stagnated these last few seasons. Same height and left-footed like Umtiti so not a great pairing. If your going to pay the BO of a left-sided CB from LaLiga then Laporte is your man. Only question is if he is happy rotating.

On the other hand, and in favour of Inigo, he is at the age gap that we don't currently have any CBs at 25-27. Our options are either 23 and under or 30 and other. I think it is always good to have talent in the central positions generationally at 3-4 year gaps. It guarantees we always have talents around their primes.

Secondly is that he can play DMC and has very good distribution. I would be confident in him at a double pivot with Busquets for example.

Martinez being 4th choice doesn't make sense neither.

Masch will leave next year.

So if it works out we will have Pique, Umtiti, Martinez and Marlon next year. I don't know what will happen with the Mina arrival though.

Either way, our CB situation wont be something to complain about.

Guys, about Marlon and Mina, imo, you are putting too much faith in them.
Marlon and Mina are roughly guys like Munir, Sandro, Halilovic, Adama etc.

We buy them for cheap and see how they will turn out.
If they turn into a world class=awesome.
If they fail, we will sell them for 1-5 millions and just buy 1-2 new talents every new summer.

Too many of you imo have too high expectations of guys like Marlon.
I am not saying that Inigo is good, but look at it this way:
Verm is a history.
Mathieu is probably gone.
Masch is poor in the last few years.
So, we have only Pique and Umtiti.
If one gets injured, we have only Masch, who is bad.
Marlon played only a few matches in a senior career. So, in a Cl semis, if Umtiti is injured, we have only Pique and poor Masch. Marlon is NOT a serious option.

So, in some way, I could understand a need for the 3rd choice Cb.

Also, imo, one more hint: don't expect too much from guys like Marlon, Mina and similar.
They are new Munirs, Sandros and similar.
Chances are imo 1 out of 10 that we will seriously count on those guys one day.

Imo, saying: don't buy a new Cb since we have Marlon and Mina, is similar to: don't buy Dembele, we have Lee and a few other exciting young Cfs from La Masia.

I'm impressed how you've went from our team being dead in a few years, Valverde being as tactically inept as Lucho, our level without Messi and Ney being on par with Betis, Semedo being a ghost (after two separate halfs  ), Alba having no IQ and so on and so forth, to us being instant challengers for everything with the possible arrival of Coutinho and Dembele.

Don't get me wrong, i like optimistic and positive BBZ a great deal better than ridiculously pessimistic and moaning BBZ, but going from dead team to ChL contender with the arrival of two specific players and the departure of one seems somewhat skewed to me...

Completely agree on the Inigo and general defense point you made, but comparing comparing Marlon and Mina to Lee and other juvenil attackers isn't fair at all.

Signing him with Mascherano and Marlon and that other kid in B team doesn't make sense.

Hope it's just rumors.

2 weeks ago we had:
MSN which as an idea just doesn't work.
Dead midfield.

2 weeks later:
1. we got rid of Neymar, wooohooo
2. let's hope that we will buy 2 WC players Coutinho and Dembele
3. we will get a good backup CB

Without Neymar, we don't have to play chaotic anymore.
Without Neymar, we don't have to play MSN crap anymore.
We can rotate attackers now.
We will get a 4th creator now in Coutinho.
We will get some longshots and different attacking options, and not only: pass to Messi/Neymar and dribble till death.
4 new players, 3 new starters bring a nice amount of recharged batteries and motivation to a semidead team. When I say semi-dead, I mean at MSN+granny Iniesta+granny Raki+semi granny Busi combo.
Oh, and we will play more balanced and more like Barca, without Neymar.

Now we'll get 2 new players into that combo of 6 attacking players.
And who knows, maybe they will buy even Seri or something.

This is just a LOOOOOOOOOOOT of changes ONLY due selling Neymar and getting 3 new players for that money.
This is like a new universe suddenly

Again, your optimism is a breath of fresh air, but could it be that you perhaps, just perhaps jumped the gun a wee bit back when you vomited up that silly rant of yours based on what, one friendly? Unless of course you actually believed that we wouldn't make any more signings from then on, which would make zero sense to anyone but the most diehard of moaners here.

Yes it would. Inigo isnt good enough for Barca.

And 30m+ is a bit too much for a 26 backup CB. Very disappointing.

Its one of those transfers where the player cant believe its actually true. The player is thinking he is dreaming as he had prepared to play at a much lower level for the remainder of his career. Until Barca pops up again.

PSG got Yuri Berchiche for 15m. Much less than his 40m buyout, but Sociedad obviously gonna make us pay his buyout :pep:

But we can afford to pay his buyout since we have a cool 26m unclaimed loyalty bonus just sitting in the bank.

1-Mascherano was probably top 5 CB in 15/16 season, he was monster that year. Last year he was inconsistent and it is normal he will be 3rd choice next year. He isn't bad
2-Marlon was at some point a starter in Brazil, played well here with B team and when called with 1st team. That isn't comparable to other La Masia or Halilovic
3-Mina is a starting CB in Colombia and starter in Brazilian league.

Those aren't valid comparison, I would understand signing Inigo if it was 15-20M signing, but for 32 with current CB situation it is questionable move unless we see him as good enough to challenge Pique & Umtiti

VALVERDE IS A THREAT TO THE ROYAL AND WHO DOES NOT SEE IT OR SHE.

And of course, NOBODY believes that Barcelona is going to take anyone from Bilbao while Valverde is their coach.
