5 - Iñigo Martínez

Could you elaborate? We are splashing huge money on average substitutes. We need all the money we can raise if we want both Mbappe and Dembele to really strengthen the starting lineup. That aint happening with this type of transfer. We dont have the money to sign both deadwood and subs, while also splashing big on two huge transfers like Dembele and Mbappe. Its a shame really.

Maybe Iñigo Martínez would be a good depth signing...

It's way more important to secure the likes of Coutinho, Seri or any other high profile signings first.

We have Masche and Yerry Mina is supposed to join in January for 9m euros. This is a silly transfer and certainly rules out us signing both Dembele and Mbappe. 32m out of the transfer budget for a guy its impossible to sell later on as he'll be on high wages and no top club will give an average 27 year old that except us. So we are certainly stuck with him for 5 years.

Masche is 33 though and it's starting to become apparent in my opinion. It came to the point where we relied on Mathieu in big games. I'd rather a 26 year old but still heavily experienced Martinez to slot in if an injury occurred. He is tidy on the ball and a solid CB, who'll cover us for a few years but not expect to be starting week in week out.

Thats what a smart transfer like Yerry Mina was supposed to do. 9m euros. To slowly ease out Masche, who is still a solid CB. Inigo is worse than Bartra for sure. But Valverde has apparently demanded Inigo right now, as he is familiar with Inigo unlike the vast majority of the players around the world. So we are stuck with the personal favorite of the new coach, a coach who might leave shortly, like most of our coaches do. Where is the long term planning at the club?

We dont need more depth signings for huge money IMO. Look at the size of our squad. Its packed with deadwood signed for hundreds of millions of euros that dont belong at Barca.

The rumored price for Inigo is too low compared to the prices of Dembele and Mbappe. This transfer will certainly not affect our other big targets.
Also i don't think we are going for Mbappe, but only for Coutinho and Dembele.

It will affect the transfer budget. 32m isnt pocket change. We need that money to strengthen the first eleven.

Admittedly though I have no faith in this board. However the only shining light from this, is that they know a poor window now without marquee signings will leave them all without a job soon.

Problem is, 32m in todays market is considered pocket change.

No it isnt. Bernardo Silva went for 50m. Serge Gnabry went for 8m to Bayern, Youri Tielemans went for 25m, Dahoud cost 12m, Ceballos was 17m, Sandro was only 6m and so on. 32m will eat up a substantial chunk of the budget.

Problem is that marquee signings to these people are Diego Costa, Aguero, Di Maria and so on. No long term planning at all. Just sign a big name and count on the fans to forget about the long term aspects of all of this.

Jordan Pickford £30 million, Sigurdsson bid rejected at £40 million though so whilst you get some astute business, the general level of 30 million pound players has changed, however I do agree there is no planning. Bartomeu is reactive not proactive, worries more about promoting Barca as a brand than actual footballing matters.

Perhaps he'll surprise us.

Or be the evil masterplan the RS fans think it is with 5m + Inigo for Laporte in 2018 :worthy:
