Since this signing is imminent might as well post this video.

Surprised City aren't making a harder push for him. He would fit Peps system like a glove over there.

Looks real good .... partner for Pique or in a three with Umtiti and Pique ??

What kind of utter horseshit is this. Umtiti has earned the right to be in our starting XI and the only way he should be demoted is if he plays himself out.

Have a bit of common sense.
A journalist may get info of intrests to a certain players or deals progress of players, But how in the **ck can he know what the coach plans for a player?, Does the 21st century journalists have long-range telepathy?

You know, You're not obligated to believe every shit you read on the internet.

I never said I believed it, I realize 95% of the crap published these days is false, but assuming it's true it would be quite an erroneous decision.

Its very likely true. Valverde probably feels the best way to keep his job for more than a year is to demand the players he actually is familiar with. And that means tunnel vision and focusing on Basque players. This is when the club should intervene and make sure we are looking at things from a long term perspective and not just focusing on Valverde's fear of losing his job at any moment so he ends up signing his favorites to feel more secure.

Let him do whatever he pleases, if he doesn't win La Liga or the CL this year he will be sacked like all our other previous failures. The only thing that will keep him at this club is a major trophy.

We cant let Valverde do whatever he pleases. His goals are different than the long term goals of Barca. His goal is to keep his job the next month. That means he likely feels the urge to go with familiarity. What he sees as no risk. That means signing his personal Basque favorites for top euros even though they are 26. That is not in the interest of the long term objectives of the club.

His goals are different?

Cut the snark. He seeks to maximize the chance of keeping his job. Thats a short term objective. If it were up to him, he would spend a gazillion euros on short term signings, knowing full well he is not likely to stay for long, looking at the history of our coaches, and someone else will have to clean up the mess of having a dozen deadwood players on high wages.

But Iñigo is only 26 years old, that's hardly a short-term signing

It is really. 26 isnt "only". He comes with a massive price tag, a price tag fit for a player who could play for us for a decade, he wont improve, his level is at the Sociedad level. He's been playing there for half a dozen years for a reason. He is like the Arda Turans and Vidal signings of the world. More Basques are probably joining as well if he gets his will. He is looking for players he is familiar with while younger players or players he doesnt know is a scary thought for his job security.
