If it were up to him, he would spend a gazillion euros on short term signings, knowing full well he is not likely to stay for long, looking at the history of our coaches, and someone else will have to clean up the mess of having a dozen deadwood players on high wages.

All successful clubs, have a balance of signing young players with long term plans usually chosen by the sporting directors, And signing older more experiences players for immediate impact on the team usually done by the coach, That's the healthy way of managing a squad, To MAXIMIZE the chances of winning trophies.
