The thing I don't get is how Dortmund were able to replace Dembele so quick and for only £22 million - how come the Ukraine club didn't screw them over knowing they had £120 million to spend !?!?

because watzke is a wise man who knows how to run a business, which vant be said barto and friends.

good point, its yarmolenko but still, barca paid 40 for a guy who played in china, probably because only barca can get fooled

On bolded part: That's actually not true. If a club 'buys' a player, the transfer fee is subject to tax depreciation over the course off the contract. Say 150 millions for a player with a five year contract, 30 mil can be written off per year as losses. That's how clubs get around FFP too. Furthermore, the player is an asset. For most clubs, Barca included, the players are usually more than 50 % of total assets. If a club increases the assets, for example by (over)paying for a player (because the transfer fee is the value of the asset),
creditworthiness increases. The result: Better credit - The club can buy more players.

Seriously, what kind of capitalist are you ? :pep:

Well, I don't know about all those intricacies but I do know that a club's budget during a transfer window is not limitless, if you pay more for player A that means you have less money to pay for player B and C that you want to buy, right?

Isn't that common sense? Or should we all overpay for the sake of having better credit and more debt so we can buy more players in the future in theory?

What do they have to do to be worth the money?

Being the standout player, a star of a champion team, a player who is considered one of the best in the world in his position. Or Someone who is performing at the same high level for many years. What exactly has Dembele done that raised his price from 15m to 105m+invariables in a matter of a year? Setting Bundesliga on fire and leading Dortmund to the double titles?? What has Coutinho done to deserve this insane amount? Being the star player of a team who was fighting to get the 4th spot in England?? Big deal!

Who would you sign?

For me if they come in and make an obvious improvement to team and help be competitive in CL and league it will be worth the overpaying in this situation.

What is the quality of the team itself, Has to do with the player himself?
You send messi to getafe and they'll still come out trophyless at the end of the season, I doubt they'll even reach the top 6, That wouldn't take away from what messi is as a player, He'll be the star player in crappy team.

Players typically have to prove they were worth the price after they've signed, with their new team. Suarez was part of a Liverpool team that could rarely, if even ever, made the CL. But he was a star for them just as Coutinho is. Would you say he wasn't worth his transfer fee because of his failings with Liverpool, or would you say he is one of our best signings since Pep?

Try to sign Ronaldo then or maybe go straight for Hazard. Football does not work that way buying players is always a gamble. Dembele is a young prospect and thats a gamble. People forget that crazy money has always been paid for players. 50 mil was 5 years ago shitload. Problem is that Qatar has flooded the market with money outside of "football" and then prices go up. We have around 300 mil for transfers with Neys buyout clause. Wtf are people panicking about? This money should and will be invested into players thats normal. We basically get 2 players out of neymar. One is young and probably hottest prospect around Europe the other one is perfect fit for Barca currently. Coutinho is arguably one of the best players in Premier League - he s worth that money in this transfer market today.

Suarez got signed mostly because of his last season in liverpool when they almost won a title and suarez was their best players, also he won golden shoe that season, 90 for him was great deal and nobody was suprised because of that price tag like now is the case with coutinho and dembele
