Also leaves out the mids they paid big money for that didn't work - James Illaramendi, Silva etc.

Did you expect every one of their transfers to be a huge success? They have successes and failiures but we have faliures mostly and they have been able to get rid of their dead wood but they we are still stuck with them.

Also james wouldn't be a failiure that didn't work. He would walk into their 11 if not for their already stacked quality lineup.

Like they aced James, the guy who cost 80 million currently out on loan for 2 years with no obligation to buy?

He wasn't dead wood for real. He just didn't get the space to be in their lineup. Huge difference in comparing it with our failiures like turan, gomez etc who are just subpar.

James is a failure if they at best lose 35m on him.

Trying to make out Real built a great midfield for 150m isnt accurate and it is a different market. Their midfield is clearly better so doesnt need exaggerated at every slight opportunity.

If Barca get Coutinho could probably argue Barca has the better group of young(ish) players.

Suarez got signed mostly because of his last season in liverpool when they almost won a title and suarez was their best players, also he won golden shoe that season, 90 for him was great deal and nobody was suprised because of that price tag like now is the case with coutinho and dembele

Loads of people argued that Suarez should not be signed for that fee. Go back and read the thread.

All of these don't justify Barca to continue doing the damage PSG has done to the market, spending this INSANE amount for the players who don't worth it. We are only making things worse, not only for ourselves but for the future of the market. All I'm reading here is that, yeah Coutinho and Dembele are better of the worse options, so it's ok to go crazy for them!!! WTH??!! Do you guys realize these two have to perform like superstars for these amounts the club is paying for them, or they end up being called failure? And the club has to look AGAIN for the new players, in a market that them, alongside PSG has inflated to the point of madness.

I like to see the reactions of those who are defending these deals when these two fail to live up to the expectations.
The market adjusts to supply and demand. It won't stay there if bidders aren't willing to pay the asking price over the long term. Stop panicking about the current inflation. It will adjust.

Point is he wasn't a bad buy. He was just a mismanaged buy who couldn't be given proper playing time. What is better, mismanaging by having some good players who can't be given regular playing time or mismanaging by having a lot of mediocre players in the lineup?

Youngish players doesn't matter. What matters is overall squad quality, depth and balance. We are all over the place in that and they are significantly better.

The main reason why people wanted him not to be signed was not because of his worth but because of the risk that he could bite for the fourth time and that would be a lot of loss for us.

He was bad as they paid 70m for a player that never showed that level for any consistency and they will lose a lot of money on him.

Wasnt mismanaged. If anything Zidane judged him correctly fairly early doors.

Young players do matter and Barca are getting together a group as good if not better than Reals but Real have more players in latter stages of career still in prime.

Apparently Yes and it makes sense.

Not sure why people believe Coutinho will be sold when their owners made a public statement.

We're either going to end up with Di Maria or not sign any player apart from a CB.

That all tied into the argument paying too much and his age, doesnt do it against big teams etc was all brought up. Can remember it.
