Just read an article from the Sun saying Suarez got a new contract last year which went from £40K per week to £80K. WTF, Suarez was on much less wages than the likes of Ashley Young?

Sure the Eredivisie isn't what it used to be and several not so famous players have scored loads of goals there (Berg, Guidetti, Altidore) but he'd already shown his immense quality internationally too. Carroll probably got a higher wage

That is correct he was on £40k p/w and signed an extension in the summer for £80k p/w with performance related increments.
