Barcelona source: "Tactically, Alexis is the player we had been looking for for a while. Key player for future. Works hard, goals will come"

Certainly works hard, not sure if the goals will ever come but I'm more concerned if he ever will develop the confidence to rise to the occasion in this team

First of all, he's not a forward, he's a winger. Secondly, he didn't miss any sitters, cetainly not a handful. There was only one good chance, but he was closed down so he had to rush and there were two defenders on the line.
At Barca our Wingers play as Forwards (Wing-Forwards). They are not there to cross the ball, they are expected to score and assist goals. We do not play our Wingers across the midfield, like, say, Man Utd do, in a 4-4-2.

The missed chance IMO was a sitter. I would expect any Forward from a top League to AT LEAST hit the target. Of course he was being closed-down , that sought of thing happens when you're in an opponents penalty box. Unless you are Fernando Torres in last years UCL match at Camp Nou, when he scored in stoppage-time and had 0 defenders to deny him.
but Barca did go 3-0 up so you can't really be surprised if that happens.
Ask yourself this: What if we weren't already ahead and comfortable?
Alexis has improved in recent games but is still making serious errors at key moments.
Effort is always appreciated and IMO should be a given. But effort, without substance is a big problem. And this won't go unnoticed with the coaching staff.

Probably some director.

I'm digging how Alexis is slowly crawling back to good form. Despite his terrible misses his overall play has been much improved the past 2 games, showing skills and control/confidence that we haven't seen all season. If he can just stabilize his level a bit and never slip back to fail-Alexis like he did at the end of the Rayo game he deserves a chance to compete for the spot.

However with Cuenca coming back and Deulo coming up, he's REALLY going to have to work for his position. As a coach I would pick Cuenca over Alexis 95% of the time... Cuenca is superior in most all aspects to Alexis if you ask me, and the number one area is CONFIDENCE. Cuenca's been taking on and beating defenders on the world class level since he was like 19-20 or whatever, no fear. He was one of our best wing players last season.

Duelofue, once he starts maturing more, will be one of our best attacking and goal scoring threats on the team. That kid has confidence by the bucketloads and really has his eye on the goal like Messi does. He really has the intent to get to the goal and get around/morally crush anyone in his way. He has the skill to do it too.

Plus we have Tello who shows much skill and directness when it comes to taking shots at goal. That is what we need a LOT more of... that attacking/goalscoring initiative that those 3 have. Yes Alexis has been decent but unless he returns to his goalscoring form of last season he is completely impotent up front and that kills us. If Messi and/or Villa are off game, we won't get goals, and with our less-than-ideal defense we will most likely concede against good opponents.

To me, if he doesn't start scoring again by next season I think he should be out by January. I hope he does well somewhere else but he just doesn't have the Barca quality to me overall. Can be good when he's on point but lacks that certain something that could take him to the next level.

As far as I'm concerned this isn't good news for Barca, Alexis won't adapt as a forward here, can't play without more freedom and a lot more space and it is better for the club to admit the mistake of purchasing him by letting the player go and making room for a Suarez, RVP, Rooney type of player, give others a chance, Alexis had plenty and fucked them all up for more than a year now !
