André Gomes

Gomes' struggles are painful to watch now. Leaving might be best for both parties. Gomes can play for another team that could suit him better and he would not lack any teams interested in him considering who his agent is. I think Juventus would be interested in signing him. He probably need to play regularly to be a starter for Portugal in the WC Squad too as those guys have some very interesting players coming through that might steal his place.

We could (hopefully) sign a top CM talent that suits the possession-based, limited-space midfield play we have compared to some other teams.

Usually I'd give a player two seasons, but we have too many "midfielders" that aren't actually midfielders and out of all of them, I'd only keep Rafinha. Unsure about Denis, but definitely sell Arda and Gomes too.

Modric was voted the worst signing of 2012-2013 in LaLiga alongside Song, I'll just throw this here. Gomes is horrendous now that's right, but he needs more time

Absolutely agreed, I'd also keep Rafinha and uncertain about Denis.
The part I do not agree with is providing two seasons. Personally I'd not give a doubtful player even a single season, unless he is a "potential creative genius" who has personal or mental reasons to under-perform at games, whereas he has been the shiny diamond in training situations.

The coaches should know and observe all these in between games, hence I'm sure that either Gomes or Arda are actually playing WELL in comparison to their actual talents. Of course the problem is that their talents do not fit this team and are anything but enough to improve in either a single season or even 5 seasons.
Apart from the financial benefits to the players, giving two seasons away to argufy simple and hardly ever changing facts, is just too long for my personal taste...

The thing with Gomes is that he shows absolutely no redeeming qualities that make us think he can actually improve given another season...

Basically he's Douglas in midfield, except Lucho insists on playing him...

Modric was never actually that bad, he was just disliked. Song was also a much better player for us than Gomes is, as pathetic as that is to say. There was once a running joke about us winning X amount of games in a row with Song starting and even though he only played shit teams, it's still something we can't manage with Gomes, so...

Not one of the players he mentioned in his list of examples of players who "Struggled to adapt" were ever as bad as Gomes is now, though, and that's with me intentionally ignoring Sergi Roberto as the mere thought of a born La Masia midfielder struggling to adapt at Barcelona causes Cruyff to roll over in his grave. Like really, Alba struggled to adapt? And Neymar? And Suarez? If this guy really thinks any of those players were this terrible this late into their first seasons I'd have to wonder if he's even been watching all these years. And finger pointing is rarely a good excuse for a consistently bad performer. So what if Busquets or Rakitic or Iniesta have been poor this season, Gomes has been worse, and every single one of our midfielders has more standout performances to their name than the 0 Gomes has.

As much as I dislike Gomes at the present time, I would give him another chance under a different manager. Like others have pointed out ALL our midfielders have been pretty poor this season and that's why we've struggled for consistency.

Lucho has chopped and changed trying to find the ideal combination but we're still struggling.

And yes alot of very, very good players have struggled here. Remember Ibrahimovic?! There was a period when he couldn't score to save his life and the abuse' on this forum was crazy. I remember one game where Messi had to give him a penalty to score because he missed 4-5 easy chances.

He's shit at the moment, but I would still give him another season. Even economically it makes sense selling Arda this summer to recover some cash, Gomes can't get any worse - no?

You never know. But Gomes doesn't fit. They should do like they did it with Ibra, and sell him. Arda too. Both need to go, and better players brought in. I'd also sell Paco and get Munir back.

We sold Ibra for same price Milan sold him 2 year later, not only that but it was originally a loan with an option to buy. We were desperate to get rid of him and that forced us to make an absymal deal.Gomes isn't a player with such huge ego who would do trouble and earning a huge wage while being 29 like Ibra was at 2010.
If Mendes can get us a team that want to pay 25M+ for him and we are able to cut our loss then do it,if a new coach like him and think he will find a way to fit him and we don't have offers for him then we will have to keep him most probably

Mendes would surely find him a team, if the new coach says he won't count on him. It's about being proactive for once.

This is Gomes first season, give him time to adjust to the way Barca play.

If Gomes had scored against Man City at the Ethihad it may have turned his whole season, but unfortunately he hit the bar when the score was 1-0 to Barca if anyone remembers.

He's going to take a commission either way as he's Andre's agent.

I dont expect us to to a good deal just because Mendes is his agent.

I think its likely that we'll just loan out the dead weight or have a fire sale. First and foremost, any money for new transfers will have to be fresh funds, we cant rely much on any money coming in. Thats not how we roll.
