Actually I feel it is since FIFA 'merged' their award with the Ballon D'or. Before that journalists would vote and you would get some interesting selections (sometimes very stupid, like Owen). Now it is a popularity contest, with people voting for their friends.

In 2010, had FIFA not taken over the award, Sneijder would have won, not Messi.

If he wins the world cup he'll win once he actually contributes significantly to the win, and he's the main man for spain so I can't see that not happening. Theres a HUGE difference between leading your country to one world cup and leading them to two, two is the most anyone's ever done as the main player and that was Pele generally considered the greatest of all time, even Maradona couldn't do it. Last year Ronaldo won the Balon ' Dor because he scored a hattrick in a last ditch qualifier, if Iniesta wins the wc theres no way he won't win it especially since no euro side has ever won in south america.
