I agree about the voters having short memories, but I don't think Messi has a chance this time. Plus, Club World Cup Championship happens right before the voters pick their choices for the Bdor right? That's an extra shot for Penaldo to grab the attention of voters once again. If France wins Euro and Griezmann scores, it will be between him and Penaldo. That also depends a lot on how much media support him on this, or he will follow the same fate as Neuer and Ribery.

Ronaldo is the favorite to be named the Best player in the world for being decisive in like what, 2,3 matches against some Micky Mouse opponents?
