Antoine Griezmann

I'd understand if this deal was done in August and we've got no other option to keep Messi. But there's the whole window in front of us, very few quality attackers available and it's not unreasonable to expect some clubs losing out and opting for Griezmann.

Sual!? PAIN!!!

Doubt club can leave a deal of this size to the last minute in current financial state.

Wait until August and find Atletico telling us to pay money in addition of Griezmann for Saul?

Don't think Messi waits around until August to see if some team panics into signing Griezmann.

Not much room for panic buys either with only a select few clubs in Europe having the resources to sign a player like Griezmann. Even in August I think the best we could get is some team loaning him which doesn't really help us if we're stuck with an even older Griezmann in 2022.

We lost Griezmann deal financially the moment we signed him, not now.
28+ years old player on high salary turning into top 5 most expensive player in history? If he doesn't became a top performer instantly then you flushed your money in the toilet.

Spot on. Griezmann's deal only was going to be lucrative for us if he hit the ground running and smashed in the goals. In return, he was basically an Alexis Sanchez type of player, even less considering the Sanchez form of 13-14.

Would people be happier if Griezmann was simply loaned out for a year to another club?

Worst option. But depends on how Saul plays. If he's as bad as some users say...

If he's as bad as some people say we still have a chance of getting rid of him for a few millions while still not being stuck with Griezmann's massive salary.

Would be much happier if we started clearing out the likes of Roberto , Pique etc. Instead we are deferring their salaries.

True, but at least you don't give Griezmann to Atletico and strengthen them.

Nobody wants them.

We just don't have alot of leverage to get a better deal. And we don't have time either.

Given both we could do worse than Saul. Like a loan and pay a percentage of wage.

Wait until they do some accounting deal and value Saul at 70/80m.

Then melt down will go up a level.

That's the idea. We can't make a loss on paper with Griezmann by letting him go for free. So get a semi decent player and inflate his value. Barto 101. But I approve this time.
