Maybe this is the beginning of the process of that sporting project and thinks that this board has an actual plan unlike the Bartomeu one.

He is 34 already , can see Messi retire next season depending on how Argentina performs in the WC.

Perhaps he's promised big signings like Haaland and de Ligt next summer, in which case he's willing to be at a team that kinda sucks for one more year.

Who knows what they talked about? Perhaps they pull a rabbit out of the hat this summer, something we don't know about.

The summer is still young.

The only rabbit they will pull out this season at this rate is a Ansu-Otamendi swap.

Truth be told: Griezmann doesn't improve our first 11. And depth looks way better this season already. It's not an awe-inspiring sporting project, but not terrible either all things considered.

Don't like Griezmann either but can't deny that he was one our best players overall. Not sure what Saul will bring on the table since Simeone has a tendency to run players into the ground , but we will have to see.

It makes it comical , he threw a tantrum last year because there was no sporting project and that was his reason of wanting to leave. I'm just wondering where the sporting project is now that he actually wants to stay.

Messi bbq lost us the league. Same as the Tata bbq before.

Maybe Laporta convinced Messi that the best sporting project is to bbq when the league is over, not before your biggest game. And that when the season is over he will throw Messi the best bbq he has ever had.

No coincidence that Messi won the Copa America after heeding this advice.

We started the summer talking of a Joao Felix swap. End with a Saul swap. If Atletico wait another month we might accept Santiago Arias.

Haha good point and actually you are right. We had to make move now because otherwise we can't make any deals. It had to be done now.

Do you think we are in better or worse position than we were last summer after Bayern defeat?
Honestly, despite all the struggles I think we look into much better situation now.
More serious president, a coach who believes in youth and starter to give them chance. We have many promising players. Team was well oiled machine before the Granada game.

Other than Griezmann, whom we are replacing with a player who might just give us same exact performances in Depay, which core player are we losing atm?
Seems like we are just pushing those who has no place here like Coutinho, Fernandes, Umtiti etc

We're probably giving Saul around 200k a week. I still think we're going to pay a portion of Griezmann's salary for the next 3 years.

I think Griez took less money to play for Barca. He was earning more with Atletico. I would assume they would be fine with his salary. At least I wouldn't pay penny of his salary if it's straight swap.

The team is not as bad as made out. Last season we started player after 10 games. This season we need to be focused from the start. Pedri is an established player now, Fati will be back, we made some signings in defense. Let's see Depay and Saul playing first.

Honestly I don't really care much anymore.

Some of you guys are going to be pissed either way. Whether Messi left or stayed. If he left and we sucked because we had to rely on Griezmann scoring 30+ goals you'd be blaming Messi for leaving us when we weren't in a position to strengthen the team. Now when he stays he's being mocked because the team are making moves such as Saul for Griezmann.

Just going to enjoy watching him play for us. Rest of you can whine for all I care. :coffee:

If Liverpool is indeed interested, I would have loved a 3 way deal where Saul ends up in Anfield, Griezmann in Madrid and us getting cash from both sides.

Doesn't seem like it though.

Do this please. It would be way better. We shouldn't take player like Saul if we don't truly need him.

Remains to be seen how Ansu returns. But overall Id say we haven't changed much since our backline + GK is an absolute disaster and there is no sign/money of addressing those issues adequately.

I think we are better, but I think Atletico can also up their level compared with next season. But we have a chance to win the title and no doubt the players will be hungry to win it after missing out last season in the stupid way that we did.

Out attack could actually end up poorer than last season, that is crazy.

Our attack was fine last season. The defense and Stegen were tragicomical though.

Barca were in absolute turmoil last season and didnt even get a full pre season really or know who would be in team to get plan of play nailed down.

Will be far better this season would be my guess as long as dont have Busi and Pique clogging up the pitch and other players used in way to stop them being exposed.

It's a horrible deal

1) People here who claim Saul is what we need, either haven't watched Saul at all OR have a distorted idea of what type of midfielder we need
Just to give you a sense of what type of midfielder we need, look at Rodrigo de Paul that Simeone signed.

If Saul ends up here, you will see Moriba playing and him rotting on the bench, just like Pjanic sat all year long.
12m gross for a benchwarmer. How much would MEssi be on in his new deal?
Just make the comparison

2) Open your eyes at how Simoeone is outsmarting us.
De Paul over Saul, like a trillion times upgrade
Griezman to play behind Suarez in his 4-4-2
Title favorites for sure.
And will have paid only 15m to Barca for this?

Wait until October, where people here will be wining about Koeman, while he has Saul :)lol:) at his disposal to play the role of the dynamic box to box.
LMAOL

This. Looking forward to next seasons matches where DePaul bosses our midfield. ***". Simeone played us good here.
