Good question. I am not a supporter of gremio in brazil... I really dont know. I think that this hunger for the attacking game started with a coach that failed in gremio. I think it was Silas.

Gremio were a theam that liked to defend well before everything, that played with counter-attacks and parking buses.

Their change of style is recent

Silas? No way. He only stayed 6 months in the club and was quite poor.

If you are talking about attacking, it's due to Renato, that was Libertadores and World champion with Grêmio back in 82-83.

If you are talking about passing, using more the midfield, avoid long passes or the defense kicking the hell out of the ball to get rid of it, then it started a little with Scolari, who seemd to try to implant it in Grêmio soon after the 2014 World Cup, then Roger Machado, who had also been our player and also Libertadores champion (in 1995).

But Roger had defensive problems and had some problems managing "people".

Then Renato came, made some changes over Roger's team, tweaked a little his style here and there. Grêmio kept the passing style but got better in attack AND defense. And Arthur became a started around April 2017 (Renato Portaluppi became coach (for the 3rd time) in September 2016. Arthur fit perfectly in the team, thanks to the fact Grêmio was already playing in a style that Arthur just blended and then shone.

Quality player. His positioning is amazing; he needs to strat working on perfecting his long passes so that he can start deploying them in the game

he made an awesome long pass to Suarez around minute 40 I think... that Suarez wasted by dribbling to the wrong side.

Our best midfielder tonight.

For all his grace, technique and flair on the ball he's so good defensively; pressing, intercepting and that last ditch block in the box.

I can't get enough of watching him play and develop as a player.

that will be something Barcelona will have to decide.

Arthur has quite good defensive skills. He has offensive skills too, but he seems more content to defend than attack sometimes.

Obviously, you can´t have Arthur defending, creating and attacking the whole match. So, most likely, you will have Arthur helping defense, keeping possession and choosing path of attack on midfield, and ONCE IN A WHILE giving a long pass, shooting on goal or trying to assist.

But those will NOT be as constant as some Barcelona supporters want, simply because more often than not Arthur will be back there, and even if he is more near the opposing box, he will be THINKING on defense, on avoiding counters, etc. Because that's somewhat natural to him.

Only thing that can be done is trying to force him to stay more on the attack, covering his back so he feels safer and not to worried about defense, etc.

Maybe this is something that should be tried only on easier matches, or next pre-season?

He's a perfectionist. It's in his every move. Control is everything to him. From the way he moves, to the way he receives the ball, to how he scans the pitch, it's slowly becoming clear to me how much he needs information. Nothing must be left up to chance. Any alternative must be considered before making a decision.

So where does that leave him? For starters, he's not going to start making passes that has him the least bit uncomfortable. If he sees an opportunity opening up and it's not a sure thing, then we can be sure that he will second guess it four times over while scanning for alternatives before the window for that pass has closed.

The good thing, though, is that his comfort zone is clearly expanding. In the first few games he was like a nervous teenager trying to talk to his crush. Overthinking to a fault, playing it safe and ending up in the friendzone. Since then, he's led a stern venture into the unknown, step by step trying out new things and meticulously mapping down what works and what doesn't. Every game, he's a little more adventurous constantly building on what he learned the previous one.

Right now, you can see him beating himself up after messing up a pass. That sort of anxiety is symptomatic of something important, but it's not productive in itself. It only restricts, not allows. As he gets more comfortable, his confidence grows as will his perceived role in the team. He will learn that messing up is not the end of the world and that trying the right option is more important than succeeding in the wrong option.

I mean worst case scenario if he doesn't expand his passing range he would be an excellent busquets replacement

someone that can carry the ball from the defense soak pressure and leave it to more creative players.

He doesn't have the physicality to play that role
