I also wouldn't spent money on Cancelo or Bellerin and would instead go for someone like Fabinho who can play as RB/DM or other versatile player (RB/CB, RB/LB, RB/RW,...). We should've bought that type of player last summer instead of Digne but now it is what it is.
But I still believe that 4-3-3 (or maybe 4-3-1-2/ 4-1-2-1-2 with Messi as AMC) or 4-2-3-1 could work well for us under different coach that will give more importance to midfield. If we get Sampaoli he'll play with 3 at the back occasionally in let's say 20-30% of the games - he usually does that against better teams - but overall he'd still play most games with 4-3-3 or variations of this formation.
If we change to 3-4-3 full time then what we'll do with let's say Alba and Digne? Of course we can always sell the Frenchman although I like him and he could possibly be good as LCB (probably better than Alba) but I doubt we'll get rid of Alba (because he's a close friend with Messi and Pique and he still has a lot to offer on the field) and I don't think he'd be best used as LCB when his attacking qualities - speed, overlaping - would be mostly unused because he'd have to stay back more in different role. And he doesn't have what it takes to play in Neymar's position (not to say he wouldn't play much even if we try to play him as LW which I doubt we will).
I just don't believe we'll have many changes that most people want in midfield (maybe we'll bring back Samper and/or promote Alena) and I also don't believe we need that much changes there personell wise (but of course new coach tactics should use midfielders better). We'll buy a RB, possibly a CB, and maybe a versatile winger if we sell Arda, but I doubt we'll get anyone of Dembele/Silva caliber for that role unless we move Messi full time to AMC and that new RW will get a starting role. Munir will be back most likely so he could be used there although he's not really playing good as RW in Valencia and I'd prefer both Vidal and Rafinha, possibly even Denis in that backup role.

I'd like if next season there's the personnel to play 343, 4231 or 433.
Fabinho should be perfect for sure. Can play CM, DM and RB. We need versatile players in these circumstances.
I would say Rakitic stays in the midfield as a starter!

However we need some brute force.
We need talk players who are fast and athletic too.
At the moment we lack height, every set piece against us is a potential goal!

Too late for that most probably,with both Manchester clubs going for him he might be not worth trying to go for unless he personally forced his way to us like Umtiti
If we decided we need a starting RW,and If we are able to convince him that he will come to be starter here I can see us getting him which is same situation for Griezman and Silva unless he is seen as AM. That said I am curious to know which one of them will be interested in doing the defensive work.

Yeah, being a starter with MSN is a great selling point.
Can't really decide which one would work hardest off the ball though.
