Semedo leaving is written in the stars. I just hope the board does the most reasonable thing and goes with Emerson. De Sciglio would be terrible as others have pointed out.

If we end up with Lautaro (for Semedo*, Vidal), Todibo (or trade him for a better CB - with Leipzig) and a good midfielder not named Pjanic (for Rakitic, Coutinho) I would be more than happy. The dream (at least mine) is Bruno Guimaraes, who looks like a workhorse - but kind of unrealistic given hes just arrived in Lyon.

*sport.es now claims hes moving to City with Cancelo going to Inter  Take it with a grain of salt.

Agree that would be a great window for me too. Bruno Guimaraes is my favorite player to add to the midfield, a great workhorse with immense technique, can play through ball and his passing range is really great aswell. Next year maybe.

Honestly can?t understand why we just don?t get Cancelo + cash for Semedo, use 60m on Werner and maybe like 40m for Upamecano. That?s still cheaper than Lautaro! And then if Juve is willing to do a swap with Pjanic/Rakitic/Vidal go for it.

Mats
Cancelo - Pique - Upamecano - Alba
Pjanic
Frenkie - Arthur
Messi - Suarez/Griezmann - Werner

This is still cheaper than if we go for Lautaro and we have three positions reinforced

I also don?t want to believe the sporting department will be that dumb. But the fact that Semedo will leave + we aren?t linked to any other RB is making me a bit worried.

Just because there are no rumours it doesn't mean they aren't working on other deals. This is not a normal year. Transfer window probably won't open before September so we still have a lot of time to negotiate. I don't believe any deal is anywhere close to be done at this point but some names will surely emerge in the media over the next few months. I actually prefer if we would do negotiations "in silence" and sign a player or two who were never seriously linked to us. The whole world knows we want Lautaro and we'll probably get him but there isn't much known about our other targets at this point so everyone is in the dark what's really going on so they are just throwing around new players we're supposedly interested in every day. Sport world is basically dead for 2+ months now and mediots still need to sell papers/get clicks and they have even more time to invent more stupid rumours than they usually do. And I'm sure Bartomeu is also using his connections to leak some false news to the media. I'm fine with this.

The problem with this team is cancelo. Every team would target our right side as cancelo can't defend and Messi won't track back. Pjanic doesn't have the legs anymore to cover that ground. Better off keeping semedo or getting a RB that can defend

This lineup would be a nightmare defensively and not really all that much better offensively than we currently are imo. Cancelo is worse defensively than Semedo and Pique would be more exposed even with Upamecano alongside him. We would add some speed to the team with Upamecano and Werner, Pjanić is probably also a bit faster than Busi but there is no way Busi is benched.

I would be much more pleased if we would forget about a new striker and just add a CB and a strong, athletic midfielder. In offense just hope that Griezmann will do better after a full year of adaptation and also give important minutes to Fati and Trincao in easier games. Suarez shouldn't play 80%+ minutes (when available) anymore and Messi could use more rest as well. Just try to break the walking amigos pairing upfront as many times as possible. I know this will never happen though.

On paper we just need to find a workhorse RM in my opinion. We have plenty of creativity/technique with Arthur and Frenkie.

Mats
Emerson/Roberto - Pique - Todibo/Upamecano - Alba
Frenkie
Bruno G. - Arthur
Griezmann - Messi - Lautaro

Maybe the attack is too narrow, but we would have options with Dembele, Fati and Trincao.

I wouldn't mind this lineup but there are 4 non-EU players in there. I think Arthur is still a year away from getting a Spanish passport and Emerson has only been in Spain for 18 months so he doesn't have a chance to get it either.

We also can't afford Lautaro, Upamecano and Bruno (and I doubt Lyon would consider selling him after just 6 months; Aouar and Moussa Dembele are apparently on their way out and they'll surely get 100m+ for them so they won't need to sell anyone else).

And realistically, we know Busi and Suarez will both be starters next year.

-------------------------Mats----------------------------

Semedo---Todibo/Pique---Upamecano/Lenglet---Alba

-------------Partey/Busquets---Frenkie/Arthur-----------------

Messi/Trincao-----Griezmann/Ale?a-----Dembele/Fati---

--------------------Suarez/Braithwaite-------------------

Partey and Semedo on the right hand side means Messi not defending doesn't hamper the team. Griezmann as a CAM (where he won the world cup after being France's most important player) means constant pressure for the opponents midfield/cb's. No €100m signing, 2 signings with only 1 year left on their contracts so can possibly be bought under market value although Partey would probably cost a lot because Atletico hate us. Selling coutinho, rakitic, vidal and umtiti would effectively pay for our transfers.

I like the Upamecano and Partey signings (I've actually wanted to suggest him above as an alternative to Bruno G.) and I think 4-2-3-1 would be a good formation for these players but there are two problems.

1. Messi is not a RW so he would play as an AMC with Griezmann drifting to the left or right wing.
2. we absolutely can't count on Dembele as a starter until proven otherwise

Im pretty sure Bruno has spanish citizenship and btw I wouldn't describe him as a workhouse even though he work hard. One can argue that his passing is better than that of Frenkie and Arthur. If he available he is my first choice for the midfield and Lyon tend to ask for reasonable prices for their players

Yeah it's by no means perfect, I just think it fixes a lot of our major problems relatively easily. In this team Messi can be afforded freedom to stay up as more of a RF/ST. Griezmann drifting to the right to help that side out when messi does this would be fine with the 2 cdm's in place. I wouldn't rely on Dembele I just can't see us getting rid of him, I'd start Fati and Braithwaite ahead of him tbh

Bruno has a Spanish passport.

?Juninho is responsible for my decision to come here. He called my family and my agents.
He was honest and loyal. He offered me a really beautiful project for my career.
That is what made me want to come to Olympique Lyonnais.
I have a Spanish passport and I could have gone to Benfica or Atl?tico Madrid.
I thank them for their interest, but I already feel at home and I am delighted with my decision.?

- On why he decided to sign for OL."
