The guy who said he could do a better job than professional scouts and find a CB better than Araujo for less than 10m and 2m salary is now apparently a specialist orthopedic surgeon

Ansu has a long road back to recovery but to say he is finished is ignorant. He can still turn into a very good player for us. Robben's career was hampered with injuries, especially early in his career when he was at Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Wait did he delete his post lol

Stop it . That's too good. Might as well ditch the CF if we sign Raphinha. What we miss is Ansu to have 5-6 months of playing for his legs to catch some strength again.

Alcantara had 2 consecutive ACL tears IIRC. After a while, he didn't have problems again.

We'll need both to be honest.

I think Xavi want to play with a pure #9 and neither Ansu nor Ferran are that.

Raphinha as Dembele's replacement and a CF either this summer or the next one. Look at the depth City have/had in their attack and how much they can rotate. I would love that for us too.

OK, but we'll probably won't get Haaland and it's probably for the best because It's a decent chance he'll not be worth the funds involved. So, in that case, would a Patrick Schick or some other backup option for example be able to make the next step just because he's a clear 9?

A decent or even good clear 9 won't cut it. You need someone who can compete with the creme de la creme of Europe. Only a player of elite class would compensate for the obvious decrease in intensity and stamina that a clear bigger 9 will cause.

Look at City and Liverpool. They don't just sign any clear 9 for the sake of having a classic striker, and instead play with Jota and Foden.

Schick and that other dude (Silva) are nightmare scenarios for me. Just wanted to reiterate that :p Would rather take Morata.

I think Schtick and Haller are very good strikers. But probably the type of guy for a club like Sevilla or even Atletico rather than Barcelona.

I'm guessing Torre will be seen as a B signing. Looks like he will feature in the first team quicker than anticipated though.

Christensen
Kessie
Mazraoui
Raphinha/AMR

Is my guess.

Could leave us a little light in the attack unless Abde can go up a level with a full pre with the A team, if neither Dembele nor Adama are retained.

Also Auba could get suddenly old over night and Fati could relapse so 9 is also risky. My bet is a low cost potential option for striker, so another Pablo Torre.

We have been looking at Jon Karrikaburu for over a year incidentally but he has renewed and wouldn't come cheap. But he fits the idea of a top A team prospect who can train with the B and play with the A if called upon as the 3rd option.

3 names :

Rafa Mir (if Sevilla will sell)
M'Bala Nzola from Spezia
Armando Broja (Southampton loan from Chelsea).

All 3 relatively cheap, young (Broja is 20 years old) and fast, powerful strikers who could become very good. I think we were linked to Rafa Mir when he was on loan at Huesca.

We should not sign low ceiling guys.

There's no point to wasting 30-40m on players whose best level might be worse than this old Auba(who's still very good).

So no to Schick, Andre Silva and players like that.

I'll take Schick for a reasonable sum. Can get a good player out of him. Pretty technical for his size too. But I agree it's a risk he won't ever be good enough.

I think if you want to gamble 30-50m on a player it gotta be on someone with a very high ceiling that can become World Class.

Either that or you wait and try to play without a pure #9.

Some of the most stupid things we did under Barto was to waste 30, 40, 50m on players whose best level was average for us. A few of those and suddenly you've wasted time and 150m on players whose re-sale value is 50m put together.

If we play without a 9 Xavi is gonna have to alter some things. His offense is really mixed in terms of attacking patterns, which is what separates him from other tiki-taka managers IMO.

But let's hope Aubameyang can keep up the pace for next season too, give us some time to figure it out.

Jonathan David and Darwin Nunez are the two strikers they should be keeping an eye on.

Good shout about Nunez. Portuguese Liga players are always tricky and finnicky, but the ones that pop and don't flop are often world beaters.
