Fair enough his scouting network produced some poor sigings but more money has been wasted on poor signings in past and probably will be again in future. It happens.

For the RB situation what do you want the club to do if they dont see a good option?

They never signed Douglas as anything other than a punt on an untried Brazilian player after they couldn sign any other first team level options.

Far too much focus put on the Douglas signing. Its not even that big a deal in scheme of things while if fit Verm could still play a part.

Jamdav, Barto isn't going to renew alves. We didn't know that, but zubi did. Douglas was his brilliant answer to that. Barto and LE fell for it, who knows why. It needs to have a lot of focus, because if Alves wasn't on their plans, the time to sign his replacement was last summer.

I'm not sure whether Douglas actually is Zubi's signing. The links with Traffic, Cury, Rosell's Brazilian associates involved in this deal....Bartomeu being Sandro's best buddy and partner in crime. You know where I'm going......

Douglas was never the answer to Alves, he was a cheap gamble as a back up to compete with the other RBs at club if Alves leaves.

Just my opinion but I also think the Douglas transfer was to give the Neymar tax case a bit more legitimacy but never were they buying Douglas to be the sure fire starting RB when Alves leaves.

There was no replacement going for Alves last summer though. They did try for Cuadrado.

The way LE defended douglas, also barto and zubi, made clear to me he was brought to be Alves replacement. LE only stopped with that nonsense after he played him a couple of times.
And I don't know which is worse... if barto and LE were fooled by zubi, or if they thought douglas, montoya and adriano were enough to fight for alves spot, as you suggested. I think that suggestion makes things worse, not better.

I am sure they actually said at the time that Douglas was one for the future and played down importance of his signing.

This is not the club being left in a situation that Alves cannot be replaced for 4/5 years it is 4/5 months at most if he leaves and there are options to play players that know the system inside out but not be the answer in that time.

We can disagree on this but I dont think Douglas was ever bought to be a definite Alves replacement.

LE played douglas in front of montoya twice. That was one of montoya's agent complaints, thar for LE douglas was ahead of him. I could be wrong, but I think LE even said that in one of his pressers. And the speech was "douglas will be important next season, he is adapting". I don't remember anyone playing it down. LE went silent only after his disastrous performances.

I feel a bit bad for Douglas. He is just not good enough. Not his fault that incompetent people at Barcelona decided to sign him. Must've been awesome and unbelievable for him when he first got the call. When he leaves Barca, I hope he goes on to a team where he'll play regularly and do well. He seem like quite a likeable guy.

He did play Douglas ahead of Montoya twice at a time Montoya and his agent were making a lot of noise about leaving etc and Lucho didnt seem too happy.

Even then though I think if Alves was out injured for any length of time Douglas would not have been the player picked at RB ahead of Montoya or Adriano.

I dont think Lucho rates Montoya all that highly and thought Douglas offered more going forward and tried him out too early.

Making comments like 'relying on Douglas next season' if anything screams out to me he is not sure about him.

Are we in the market for a set piece specialist? :mou:

Braida doing more work than Zubi ever did.

:deulofeu:

why not list the signings and give your personal verdicts? (like A, C- etc)

The problem with Zubi wasn't the players he signed .if you listed them you will think he is better than he actually is .though he is still bad .the problem is more about those he didn't sign
Zubi didn't have any sporting project ,vision or support to the manager views with lack of good bargain deals
We have let go Marquez/Chygrynskiy/Yaya and signed Mascherano to replace them all in 2010 and he was signed to be DM btw ,it was Pep who later converted him as CB .he didn't sign a CB until 2014 .a GK who didn't think it was important to get world class CB is something I will never get .he did the same with the RB situation lately with the ban
His contract renewal was horrendous at times ,we lost both Thiago & Keita in 2 consecutive season due to the stupid clauses he allowed in the contract of the players .the list goes on and on

Yea ive said the same thing. He could have had a decent career in a lower league but instead got turned into something to redicule and laugh at. And thats on Bartomeu/Zubi.

He will probably go on to have a career with more chances than he ever would have due to the Barca association.

The only people I ever here ridiculing him are Barca fans. The vast majority of football fans I know dont even know he exists let alone ridicule him.

JamDav is right about Douglas never being the replacement for Dani and an unreasonable amount of expectation/ridicule on him. And I understand not springing the money for Cuadrado too. We'll give Dani his year and get Danilo anyway.
