That makes no sense. Arda isn't much younger than iniesta, iniesta is better and still has two more good seasons in him, maybe more.

We payed 81m for a 28 years old (almost). Age is not a problem IMO. He could play to a very high level for 4 years easily. Alves at 32 had one of the best performances of his career and his fitness is amazing to this day. I think we pay too much attention to age. We should think about those things when players get at 32-33 years old, not at 29. 28 years old used to be a player's prime.

Iniesta is 31 and has noticeably declined from his peak. And look at other players, like Falcao, Torres. Casillas started to decline as soon as he hit 30 even though goalies are supposed to peak later. So we cant scoff at these things. It must be taken seriously.

Suarez is the best CF in the world, is a year younger and compliments Messi perfectly.

That is different from paying 40m for a player a year older who wouldnt be a starter and already seems to have fitness issues.

Not that I am dead against signing him but the Suarez fee doesnt really show it is worth it.

Suarez' fee was worth it because he performed amazing when it counted most. If Arda will do the same next season or the season after and will help the team reach glory again, no one will give a rat's ass we payed 5m. more than what we should have payed. These lamentations about transfer fees only happen when people don't have better things to talk about. Once the transfer window ends, so will these discussions.

The thought of getting Arda is exciting to me, he brings the physicality and mentality that Lucho wants and has the technique and vision required. He's very good at leading the ball and is very hard to dispossess, and his dribling and passing is great as well.

Plus, of course, the beard of Sparta. That's worth at least 10m euro just there.

Of course he is better than arda, he isn't as consistent as before but for the most part is still a world class player. Still better than the young number tens coming through like götze, isco etc.

The reason he isn't absolutely world class in literally every game as he used to be is because we have moved from his preferred tiki taka style and he doesn't have Xavi next to him.

Atletico fans must be praying for this transfer to go through. 40m for a 29 yr old who cant play 90 minutes in a system where it isnt sure where he will fit. Is there anyone worse than us at negotiating transfers? I doubt it
