I think besides the obvious small budget problems is Lucho wants to give Arda another season before throwing him to the wolves.

They should think about the club first. Arda would go for good money now, way more than he will next summer.

Not sure how that is underwhelming but it depends who we will sign.
Also it´s likely that we will sign a second CB with Lemos or another one.

If we signed Jonny then we certaintly wouldn't need Lemos. It'd mean Umtiti was the 3rd/4th choice CB this summer rather than being used primarily at Lb. Also means we don't have to waste "30 million" on lemons.
Tbh I can still see us pushing for Bellerin and apparently we 'tapped him up' behind Arsenals back, I think using our Spanish plavers at the Euros.

I remember he played at Lb against Spurs and was v impressive and scored a wonder goal

More or less, if Pogba goes to Real, our only option left is Koke.
Kroos would need to get sold twice to end here.
Ozil, a strange story.

Maybe some new player will explode this summer, but again, we need players who have more than 1 good season behind them.
So, again, do you have more world-class-fresh-blood-young-Cms ideas?

Lets say buying Rafa Marquez for 5m. Thats a good transfer. People say Mathieu was a great transfer, he is a decent backup, but it is also a luxury transfer most clubs cant afford because of his age and no value.

Marquez for 5m back then is the same as Umtiti today.
Ronaldinho was 34m back then. That would be 90-100m today. 3x

Marquez from Monaco was a very good young, proven player.
15-20m today.

Ok, that is still better than 20m for Mathieu, but still, 20m for a young defender isn't peanuts either.

Koke will not leave AM in the foreseeable future. Kroos wouldn't be allowed to sign for us (like with Di Maria). Ozil wouldn't join us, plus he'll be too old by then. Tbh I can't see Pogba joining RM this summer. Well get him next summer

we do need a starter quality midfielder, that is for sure
we can't have rakitic and iniesta as our only reliable CMs
Denis, Rafinha and Arda are not starter material and are better of at CM or as wide midfieders/wingers in a 4-4-2
Roberto is better at RB

You cant have only two reliable CMs and call yourself stacked. Don't let numbers deceive you

I think Umtiti will be 30m. But I get your point and its not important.

20m for a player who's a starter for 8 years is a good transfer. 20m for a decent backup for a couple of seasons is to set the bar really low IMO. We cant just splash huge amounts on 29-30 year olds, have them around for a season or two as decent backups, let them rot in the stands for the next couple of seasons as they age and paid top euros and be satisfied.

Thats what ive been saying. Theres a HUGE gap between the top 3, and the 4th.
And Koke is more in the same mold as what we already have, more an AM then CM. Iniesta, Rafinha, Turan, Roberto and Raki are all AMs. Raki plays more defencily but hes not CM.
We need a CL worthy creator, not a gamble promising talent.

He's a CM, not AM. If anything then Koke would be the perfect midfielder for us. A creator.

Scoring a lot of goals? He has 23 goals in 268 matches for Atletico And unlike Cesc, he's not a complete donkey when it comes to the defensive side of the midfield duty.
