Bernardo Silva

Issue for me is that we have Gavi&Pedri. Would rather not put Bernardo in front of them. I also prefer Kessie/Frenkie profile wise with one of them.

Gavi is too young to be world-class yet. Pedri although brilliant can be inconsistent. We need a world-class midfield to compete for all titles. And De Jong is just not it. He is average, like Rakitic, or worse. Haven't had a superstar CM since Iniesta retired.

We tried with Coutinho, but he was a clear final third player. Pep managed to convert both Bernardo and De Bruyne to interiors.

Barca can’t just rely on a 17 year old and 19 year old as guaranteed starters and disregard class players.

Part of the problems in recent times is that after Barca starting XI, the drop off in quality was huge. Xavi said it himself, football has changed and with the option of 5 subs, line ups are increasingly rotated.

Bernardo would be by far our best midfielder and a consistent difference maker and chance creator.

Bernardo>Frenkie for what Xavi wants

We need some experience in midfield, world class experience. Kessie I have a good feeling about but can't be sure and as fergus90 said, we need a deep squad. Gavi is too young to be a starter, last season was a desperate situation. Also if Busquets leaves next summer we might end up with another young DM to replace him so we lose even more experience in midfield.

So why does Bernardo make no sense but Frenkie and Roberto do?

For one, we still have Frenkie. And if he leaves we still have 4 CMs, which is a good number. Two brilliant talents and two guys backing them up - in case of Kessie maybe even start.

Well obviously I’m talking about Bernardo replacing Frenkie. Ultimately you rate De Jong much higher than I do and that’s fair enough. It’s highly unlikely he will want to join United anyway so just have to hope the current options work for what Xavi wants.

Bernardo would be like Pedri 2-3 years into the future.

But I have hope Pedri in particular will deliver.

-----Fati-----Lewa------Rapinha------
Alba------Busi--------Pedri-----Azpi--
------Kounde--De Jong---Araujo----

Play him as CB, so we can easily change from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3.

Bernardo would be an upgrade over Frenkie for us. The only question is the price. Does it make sense to spend big on a midfielder even if he’d take us up a level?

I’d rather wait and see how good Pedri, Kessie, and Gavi are for us. Also if Nico is serviceable as a DM. Next summer we have to upgrade on FBs (main weakness), Mats, and a find a Busi replacement.

Nah, I rate Pedri and Gavi higher than you do. If we were talking Iniesta here I would say the jump in quality is worth it, but Bernardo is not that far off.

I rate them both very highly but Gavi isn’t even 18 yet so can’t burden the guy yet. Bernardo for me was about replacing De Jong not the youngsters.

Either way, it’s most likely that the midfield is going to remain as it is.
