Cesc was 16 when he left. He was nowhere near ever getting a single minute in the first team. And probably rightly so, with all the talent that Barcelona had in their ranks. He didn't even play for the senior national team until three years later. No one ever had any expectations for Cesc, and definitely didn't count on him to "help" the club, that is, the first team. They sold him like they sell other talented youngsters they don't need, and decided they wanted to get him back when they saw him turn out to be a world-class player in Arsenal and the Spanish national team. He probably would have never gotten this far had he not left for Arsenal or another big club in need of a midfielder of his type. So this imaginary tale of Cesc being the guy who turned his back on the club when they were not doing well is complete and utter crappola.

The other part, him coming home when the team was winning trophies left and right is true. But the club WANTED him. And Arsenal had deteriorated completely by that time. It's understandable.

Osasuna 1-2 Barcelona - Cesc was subbed for Pedro after 60 odd minutes when the score was 1-0 to Osasuna. Barcelona score two relatively late goals to secure victory. Cesc had no influence on that;
Barcelona 1-0 Valencia - Cesc subbed early on again, Barcelona won due to Adriano's wondergoal;
Sevilla 2-3 Barcelona - Fabregas had a good game with a double, but Barcelona sneaked the victory with two very late goals against a ten man side;
Barcelona 2-2 Real - Thought he was poor and rightly subbed around the 60 minute mark for Sanchez

If you're talking about Cesc in the 2012/13 season then at least list his best matches (like vs. Rayo/Deportivo 5-4/Bilbao/Malaga etc.) when he bossed the games.

The Sevilla match is probably my favorite but Cesc was much better in later matches.

Ya me too. Imma Cesc fan boi

Excellent :party1:

So very true Stric. But the problem is that haters don't want to hear it. They have their minds made up...

He was approached by Wenger (who later noted that Barca wouldn't have let him anywhere near him) while winning the best player and goalscorer awards in a tournament for his youth NT. There were enough expectations that securing his stay was one of the priorities when the new board stepped in. When they found out what Arsenal had done, they went ape shit and started throwing threats Arsenal's way. We ended up getting Gio for some change.

He's fine but stop with the whiny bs...

this isn't arsenal.

arsene's players all inherit his whiny, prissy attitude: henry, hleb and now cesc have to all face a harsh reality.

Eetu:

According to Cesc himself at 16 he was "not good". Anyway Cesc wouldn't have got anywhere near the first team at the time. He left Sept 2003.

Here is the 03/04 Barca midfielders squad:

Edgar Davids, Sergio Santamaria, Sanz Luis Garcia, Andres Iniesta, Lopez Gerard, Philip Cocu, Hernandez Creus Xavi, David Sanchez, Thiago Motta, Ricardo Andrade Quaresma, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, Dani Tortolero, Ramon Ros, Fernando Navarro, Martinez Luis Enrique

The midfielders of note there are Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard, Davids & Phillip Cocu.

Cocu left Barca in 2004 as did Davids (who was on loan). Gerrard was a backup.

So in other words too much competition from Xavi (who was a starter in 03/04) & Iniesta (who was to go on to be over the following seasons).

And of course Deco, Van Bommel & Edmilson arrived for 04/05 but Fabregas wasn't to know that. He was already gone.

Clearly Fabregas was one of the best young players in the world when he left. He is most likely saying he 'wasnt good' as he is embarrased that he left the club for money at the time and realised how big a mistake that was.

Maybe but my point still stands: if he had stayed he wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the first team.

Until when?

He was around seventeen and a half when he broke into the Arsenal first team regularly. Many of Barcelonas best young players were starting to emerge into the first team not long after that.

That's just speculation, so your point doesn't stand...

The thing is he left for whatever reason, and now he's back for whatever reason, no need to dwell on details, the fact is he's a part of the team and should be treated as such, that is with respect...

That's just not true. Barca certainly didn't want him to leave, and definitely didn't sell him. He left Barca for the compensation money clubs have to pay to developing clubs - that's it.
