Cesc Fàbregas

That's just speculation, so your point doesn't stand...

LOL. Did you see the list of midfielders I posted above. How the heck was a 16 year old Cesc supposed to even make the first team let alone be a starter?

A 16 year old Fabregas didnt break into the Arsenal team either. That Arsenal midfield had Viera and Silva at the heart of it anyway.

Youngie, yep he said that, while in reality he was one of the best talents in the world back then. He also said that all the hype Iniesta was getting made him feel insecure about his chances - fans loving a youngster that club had given a chance was a problem. Funnily enough, Davids was brought in during winter transfer window as Rijkaard wanted something for his team's weakest point, midfield.

It was much easier for him to break into Arsenal's starting 11 when Vieira left in '05. Whereas Barça added Deco, Van Bommel and Edmilson in '05. Would a 16/17 year old Cesc have stopped Deco being signed and being indispensable?

So Cesc left because he couldnt get in the first team at 16?

Why did Messi not leave then? He didnt make his debut until 17.

Cesc left to go to Arsenal who had one of the strongest midfields in the world and two world cup winners playing in centre midfield.

Nah he left because (IMO) he knew he had no hope of making the first team or even the B team. He was probably guaranteed first team action at Arsenal.

So why did Cesc leave? For money? People here are saying he'd have broken into the Barça first team anyway and got big money? He obviously left for a chance for first team football because he saw no chance at Barça.

My bad for any inaccuracies in my post (sell or compensate, though, the message stays the same), but my point still stands. Cesc was not a first team player, and probably wouldn't have become one for a long time after that (or ever), so to say that he abandoned the club when things got tough makes no sense whatsoever. I know what's implied by that situation, and this wasn't it. They weren't counting on HIM to win them La Liga or the CL or whatever. Sure, they probably wanted to keep him around, but he wasn't the magic wand that could've helped them, but decided to leave instead. He was 16, FFS.

The club rated him highly and he had just been top scorer and player of the tournament at the U-17 World Cup in 2003.

They were furious that he and Pique left and made changes to prevent it happening again in the future.

So? What the two of them did was not what's being implied here, and that's the scenario of turning your back and abandoning a sinking ship. They had nothing to do with the ship. They left because they had better prospects of getting regular action in senior teams elsewhere than in Barcelona.

Really? How many first team games did Pique make at Man Utd? Did Man Utd have weaker centre halfs than Barcelona at the time? Did Arsenal have a weaker center midfield?

Probably not on both counts.

Exactly. I don't like Cesc being branded as a mercenary.

There was nothing to suggest he would not break into the Barcelona team by 17/18. By 18 he was playing for Spain!

It was not the strong Barcelona midfield of today that he left. Many players - like Xavi could have left when they could have been playing first team football at an earlier age and for more money.

But for Xavi all the mattered was making it at Barcelona. For Cesc that didnt seem to important until they were the best team in the world.

Xavi almost went to italy, his mother didn't want him to, but his father wanted him to go. Then she threatened him with a divorce, and Xavi stayed, lol. But if both his parents wanted it, Xavi could've ended up at Milan.
It's easy for us to judge and point fingers, but we really don't have ways of knowing what really happened inside their heads, all the circunstances, etc. The past is the past. Now Cesc is a Barça player, all that doesn't matter anymore.

What Cesc and Piqué did was leave for more successful teams (at the time) and more money, simple as that. I can understand that decision, but it doesn't sit well with Catalan cules and it leaves somewhat of a bad taste.

No it's not the same thing at all. It's the difference between someone buying your painting or a thief breaking into your house, taking your painting and leaving the crowbar at the scene. In the first case everyone's satisfied, in the second you don't really care about the crowbar despite it being worth about a tenner.

There is just no way he's getting sold. Unless he wants which I don't think will happen any time soon. He's an important piece in the team and will be more vital each day.

He is still looking like a round peg on a square hole or vice versa. He does some good stuff but alot of the time looks completely lost. I was against his signing as we had Thiago at the time. I think Cesc has hindered his development and disrupted our natural style of play. I wouldnt consider him an automatic starter at all.
