I think my main point is that you have to be fair
- Discussing a GK profile claiming poor performances in the past by cherry-picking is debatable:
1. Sociedad is a very mid-lower table with unbalanced talent in all their lines, an historic poor defense and counter attacking philosophy put together by effort more than tactics.
2. Chile is a much more leveled team to have a comparison, and their gameplay has an identity of play.
*If you want to compare GK performance an even play-field is necessary imho, because any mediocre team's GK has bad stats (proven like toilet paper)
- Isolating individual mistakes as the reason of failed season success is even more debatable:
Why?
1. You can have clean sheets for life and still lose a league.
2. You can have lack of end product upfront and lose a league.
3. Your defense can become blunder-land and lose confidence.
4. Your type of gameplay demands certain things that are not working because of players/tactics
5. Your team can become injury-prone during some part of the season, making your 2nd/youth choices starters.
6. Coach can fuck up team tactics so bad the team is unrecognizable
7. Rotation can make wonders or blunders in the flow.
8. Your competition can win/draw/lose all/some
Etc.
In an elimination type of competition (WC, UCL, EL, etc) any single mistake have a direct result on your overall competition performance. In a league type of competition you have so many variables (direct/indirect) that you cant pinpoint an specific definitive mistake. It's an overall performance summary during a year more/less.
