So funny to see polls on popular football sites with the question whether Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the BdO, and suddenly bucketloads of people show themselves claiming they always thought he was better than Messi

You didn't say it in your original post but in general it does seem that you think Messi should win over Ronaldo atleast.



Golden Boot means nothing, it's a scorer award but Ronaldo has scored more than Messi in 2013. And I think by now, he has a better goals/min ratio too. He has about as many assists as Messi, so he even clawed back on that advantage Messi used to have.

Barcelona won La Liga because of their incredible 55/57 first half of the season, which almost entirely fell in 2012. Further, Barca won every single one of their 6-7 league matches in the second half that Messi missed, so that's a further 18-21 points which he had no effect on.

Ronaldo has played better than, or on par with, Messi in each and every single one of the 4 Clasicos in 2013. He has 2 goals in 300 min, while Messi has 1 goal in 360 min.

He scored against Atletico in the cup final and when he left, the score was still 1-1. Messi, on the other hand, walked off when Atletico were leading 1-0 in may, and again when they were leading 1-0 in August. Moreover, he missed a penalty against them in the next game.

In the champions league games, Messi did not do any better than Ronaldo either.

So, I just wanted to know why it seems to be blasphemy to suggest that Messi is less deserving than him. Certainly, it's a lot lot closer than Barcaforum would have you believe

Yea messi will always be up there. Cr scores a lot of European doubles and hattricks these days but Messi is the only player than has proven he can score 4 or 5 in one cl game game more than once so everything is always a possibility with him. When he scored 5 against Leverkeusen CR and Gomez were ahead by a bit then he pulled ahead of CR and ended level with Gomez.Freakish player.

Why not? I think he is at the peak of his career, can't imagine if he can get better than this.

I think he is a fantastic player, but how can you like those celebrations? Especially after a win is handed to you on a plate by a ref or an opponent's brainfart. If it was a 40 yard screamer ok, but he does it every single time. Even for screwed up tap-ins etc. Just comes across as even Narcissus would say: "that is maybe a bit too much".

hate to say it, but the man is on fire

See here it is again. he is on fire with the amount of goals he's scoring (and well done to him)- but his performances and overall contribution to the game overall have still been meh. He was doing pointless easy tricks constantly last night, fucked up a lot of basic passes (which teammates recovered so it. never. gets. noticed. or. pointed. out.) and though competent was nothing special during overall play. But he scored. So thats another game that goes down as a great CR performace. Drives me up the wall.
