Daniel Alves

When off form a ton of RBs i don't know are better. Alves lows are low, man, we wondered if Bartra or even Pedro could be more suited at some point. I know very little about Vidal, but if he's young and talented he better be a lot more effective than off form Dani.
serghei An error of judgement really ? Sounds like the Lucho discussion all over again. Huge turnaround in the second half, no doubt about it.

Montoya and Douglas will leave and adriano will stay mostly. Lucho does not rate montoya that much and don't see why he would keep him any longer.

Yeah mate there's no point discussing this, no one wants to think about how horrible Alves was up until january and that's been going on for more than a season and a half, I love Dani but i'm not forgetting either, and really really hope him deciding to stay means he wants to seriously keep giving his best version like he did these last few months while negociating his contracts with Barça and other clubs.

I guess we'll be fixed next season, but at least now if he goes back to bad form there's Vidal to take over :)

Very happy with the news.

Think he's an important dressing room figure, helps hold the Brazilian clique together and is probably one of the guys closest to Neymar. Losing him and Xavi would be almost a little too much for Lucho to have to take on.

His form this season really showcased the growth of the team: shit at first, untouchable world-beater when it counted. Earned the extension this time and should ease the pressure from Vidal's debut.

Great business so far, two big moves right after the season ended. Was proactive, no fooling this time and was quick and decisive, something we NEVER had with Zubi (outside of Ter Stegen).

Some Barca fans wanted to sell Neymar, some wanted to sell Messi, many were against signing Suarez (not only because of the incident at the WC).

They've all been proven wrong because we have the treble and Alves was crucial for this success. His skill-set is simply unique because he combines pace, great passing, great movement and lots of other crucial aspect for our team like nobody else. Montoya is solid defensively (even though he was below par in a lot of matches he played) but he doesn't contribute anything to our attack.
It's insane that you assume that ''several RBs you don't know (?)'' would perform better than Alves when he's off-form. You completely underestimate his abilities and importance for Barcelona. It's sad that individuals get singled out when the TEAM doesn't perfom well. Alves had some very bad matches but that's not only his fault but the overall performance of the team.
We gained momentum and unity among the players after Anoeta and this amazing chemistry allowed everyone to play awesome for months and against the best teams in the world.

Suarez had bad matches at the start of the season. How many people said that he's a bad signing? Many. He went on to a big-game player without whom we wouldn't be nearly as good in attack as with him.
Neymar was bashed because of some bad matches. He went on to score in every CL match since the round of 16.
Messi had an average season last year (according to his standards) but is now at an unbelievable level which goes beyond belief.

My point is: Every player has bad matches and every player should be blamed for the mistakes they make but only considering the overall performance of the team as well. There is no need to pick out individuals and bash them without acknowledging the fact that the team didn't allow them to play at their best.
In the end the mistakes until January don't matter because he performed at his best since January and played a crucial part in our immense success.

I don't think Alves was ever as bad as some paint, same with Pique. Under Tata it was a collective failure. We have the same defense now, improved tenfold. Even under tata, it was noticeable to me how weaker our right side was when Dani didn't play.
And a wc player doesn't forget how to play or lose his abilities. Messi moving back to RW helped Alves a lot too, and when the collective improved, most players regained their best form, and this wasn't by chance.

The Barca Official website says he's signed until 2017 with the option of a third season.

Now that we've secured Vidal's services, Dani will have some serious competition, for the first time probably in the last 4 years. So I'm not that concerned that his level will drop again, as some of you are.

That was part of the reason for his poor performances over the past couple of seasons (prior to this one), and also partly due to tactics (ie. Tata's instructions to constantly spam high crosses) contributed to his diminishing returns.

I'm happy that he's signed. It would have given us a big headache if he hadn't. :surfing:

not interested in explaining my pov that when alves sucks, he really really sucks, in the end it's subjective and not really the time for such debate.
I don't like talking about players I don't watch instinct, that's why i didn't name anyone.
Alves has been the best fullback in the world for some months and here's hoping he'll keep it up !

Many questions...

So are we loaning Douglas and selling Montoya? are we allowed to sell under the ban?
Dani stays but Vidal joins him in January. That's fine for Vidal until he settles but what about Adriano? strictly backup to Alba? hmmm

Spot on.

And you know what's funny? That the only true world class RBs in the game right now, are still the ones from 2008-09. Alves (32), Lahm (31), Brane Ivanovic (31) are to this day still the best RBs in the world. Incredible. Too bad Pep doesn't play Lahm there anymore.

Loaning Douglas? most likely... no one will buy him
Selling Montoya? very much likely... lucho doesn't rate him

And yes we can sell and loan players during the ban.

Vidal joins the club now only but can only start matches from january. Adriano will be the backup for dani until then and next season we can sell him i think. But going with dani alone is very risky thing to do.
