It means that Villa asked to go to Atletico and the club accepted a deal with 5 million with is ridiculous fee. They could of think selling him for more thats what i think

They cant make Atletico pay more and given the wages they will be paying a 32 year old I very much doubt they would have gone any higher on the fee.

Do you think the club just did not think to try and negotiate it higher?

Barcelona these last few years have been fantastic in the transfer market, despite what some people seem to try and make out.

Well he is a good player but surely not world class anymore since his injury. But the fee is ridiculous, should the club be sensivite for a player that asks to somewhere for so low fee? Not for me cause actually first you think of yourself and then for the other,it may look egoistic but when its about business there shouldnt be any emotions

Its also possible to say that it is egoistic by Villa to demand to be sold to the team that offer very little to Barca, the club that supported him throughout his injury.

Trying to turn this around on Villa? Saying the club "supported" him when he was treated like trash most of this season? Are you Rosell?

Wait... what? Couple good deals like Jordi Alba don't make up for the screw-ups.

Compare that to the Laporta years where 85-90% of the buys where flops or saw their value plummet with us. We bought two Brazilians called Henrique and Keirrison for 24m euros for example (plus their wages of a similar amount if not more), who were so bad they didnt play a single game for us and were released on a free transfer. Only pique and yaya actually were really good buys, and pique only because he basically demanded to buy sold back to barca. Hleb and Caceres were bought for more than 30m, adding another 30m in wages, and they played just a handful of games for us. Chygrynskiy played about a 10 games or so for a combined total of almost 30m incl. wage.

There has been a very marked improvement over the Laporta years, no doubt. In total, we have bought 5 players who still have good sell-on value (cesc, alexis, alba, song and neymar), played many games, are still in their prime, and is still at the club and important players for us.

It was the previous management that bought almost 29 yrs old Villa for 40m and gave him a 11m wage in his final year of contract. Blaming the low fee we get for him on this management is not appropriate IMO.

To everyone who thinks this is a bad deal, can someone explain what I'm missing? Villa is a 32 year old who wants playing time in a top CL club, preferably in Spain. We would ideally get rid of him, because he costs too much (based on what he can offer) to keep, and because we can't offer him the regular playing time he wants. So when Atletico rollls around, and Villa wants to leave, how the hell do we persuade them to increase their price when they have absolutely no reason to do so? They could always leave and find another player, Villa would by no means be crucial for them, so they have absolutely no incentive to raise the price. We have to sell him though, and if not to Atletico then where? There's nowhere else he wants to go...

You are 100% correct but some people just want to blame the club for evry single thing and wont take any of it on board.

It does make you wonder if he really cares about the world cup though, if he refused to lower his outrageous wage. I think he would be willing to sit on the bench for us with his 11m salary rather than improve his chances for a WC spot by accepting a move abroad. This is probably the sad reality.

Just because it's less bad than some of the examples you stated, doesn't equate to "fantastic". Cesc & Alexis although they are regular players for us haven't been extremely impressive. Alba/Song are good ones, Neymar too early to tell.

Funny seeing people yet again defending our board and trying to turn things around on the player.

It happened with Thiago. I guess now its Villa's turn.

The transfers under the previous board were far worse.
