Ernesto Valverde - V1

Don't like his football, don't like his decisions, don't like his philosophy, such as it is. But not none of that really mattered so long as we were getting the results, for this season at least, considering how low expectations were going into it. But honestly I'm starting to feel ground down by him now, by his consistently baffling team selections, the overplaying of players, the lack of trust in youth/anyone who isn't Gomes/Paulinho/Vidal, the safety first tactics, the ceding of possession/control; for me he's not a Barcelona manager, or not what I would recognise as one.

Wasn't some stat which said no team in Spain ever wasted a 10 point lead in La Liga? I mean, you have to be record-breaking stupid to be the first manager who would throw away such a lead, and not in charge of any team, but a team full of world class players, including the best ever.

Are you hoping that we lose?

Why the hell would I hope that? I hope we win off course but I don’t like Valverde at all. FC Barcelona is a synonym for a spectacle and beautiful football and his guy is mostly playing unwatchable football. Would I like us to win La Liga and CL? Hell yeah! But I would also like to see new manager on Barca bench, someone with balls and idea how to play beautifully and win.

He is also the manager that built that lead and could win the league because of it.

Interesting he is now seen as managing a team 'full of world class players' when squad was being spoken about as shit at start of season.

Which season was this?

97/98.

SAF had won trophies before that though, at Man Utd. Proven himself. With the investment made in the squad and players available, it would be unforgivable to lose the league from this position.

I won't call him a Fraud but I will say his decisions during the second half of the season have been cowardly and gutless to say the least. All the hard work that we have done during the first half of the season is quickly being undone due to poor decision making with the lineups and conservative mindset.

Guys like Paulinho and Vidal should have no business starting or being ahead in the pecking order of the likes of Coutinho and Dembele. Don't give me that excuse that "Well Dembele isn't great defensively yet" But somehow Paulinho is?

Paulinho has been bad for awhile now. He's defensively and tactically so poor and the only thing he offered was the Goals, his first touch is heavy and his passing is bad as well and offers nothing on the build up. Once his goals dried up he's become a hindrance.

He also took 5/6 years to win a trophy at United which wont be offered to EV or anyone else.

How much do we know about what went on behind the scenes on the Paulinho signing?

Wouldn't be surprised if Valverde had a big say in it tbh. We've signed a handful of great players: Coutinho, Dembele etc yet EV only seems to like Paulinho.

Yeah let's compare United when SAF came in to Barca

At Barcelona you're expected to build leads like that when your rival is a mess. You're not expected or allowed to waste them to Atletico Madrid.

There in lies the problem.

Winning is 'expected' and moment dont get called a fraud.

One of the sides were seen as being in a mess at start of season and it wasnt Real.

Come on, let's not compare Valverde with Ferguson, or this Barca with the United Ferguson took over.

If Valverde fails to win the league it's not only that he should be sacked in 2 seconds, but it would also be a historical black stain on his career as a manager. When you have an 11 point lead, and Real Madrid is not a threat of any kind, you can't be nervous about winning the league.

It means you're not a very good manager. Even if he wins the league, but does it in the last game or so, it would still throw major doubt on him as a manager. Atletico's team can't even be compared with ours.
