As for Ferran, now his contract really looks big. But 2 years ago he had a different status, he came from Man City, although he was not a starter there, but for the national team he was one of the key players.
There's something shady going on with Barca offering those huge wages to players who wouldn't get it anywhere else.

Besides, Barca still has a strong brand and players benefit from that, yet we're overpaying like we're some sheikh's new toy yet to appear on the football map so have to pay to attract.

Giving Ferran four times his City wages is crazy, really doubt big clubs were lining up to pay City 60m and offering him comparable contracts.

I agree. Although Torres was in a different status at that time, x4 salary was too much.

Considering that City were ready to increase his salary to 6 million euros.

It turns out we gave +4 million.

It’s strange, the media wrote that he took a pay cut for the sake of Barcelona. But he earns more in Barcelona than he received in City.

No, it's not normal at all.
Let's take only Laporta signings.
- Memphis was earning 5m gross at Lyon, and Laporta gave him a 10m gross contract.
DOUBLE!
- Kessie was earning 4m Gross at Milan, and Laporta offered him a contract of 9m Gross.
Thats a doubling!
- Christensen was earning 4.8m Gross at Chelsea (a club that notoriously overpays), and Laporta gave him a 9m gross contract.
That's almost a doubling again!

And let's go to more crazy stuff:
- Raphina was getting 3.8m Gross at Leeds, and Laporta TRIPLED (!) his waged to 12.5 gross
- Eric Garcia was getting 750k at City, and Laporta gave him a 6m Gross contract.
400% increase!
- Kounde was getting 1m gross at Sevilla, and Laporta gave him a 13.5 m gross contract.
Like 13xtimes his money!

You think that's normal in any case whatsoever?
I get that these people are going to a bigger club and expecting a pay rise, or that some of them (not all) like Kounde, have reached the next level in their development and want that to be reflected in a contract.
But a sane club would not double by default their earning, let alone handing 9 or 13m more gross !
Take also into account that most of these would pick Barca before most other clubs

Given these numbers, a sane club would give:
Kessie, Raphina, and Christensen max around 6m gross.
Depay no more than 7m gross,
Kounde no more than 4-5m gross,
and Eric no more than 2m gross

Look at how a financially sane club's wage structure looks like

Fatporta is following Bartomeu's wage disasterclass step by step!
Either he is simply an idiot who thinks Barca should be paying above the market for no reason,
or there is certainly something shady going on as @Joan said

That's one of the most clueless posts I have seen. Well done

I don't know if it's just me, but how and why did we give out such crazy contracts.

Like for example:
Ansu Fati 2021-2027 14m p/y
Clement Lenglet 2020-2026 12m p/y
Ferran Torres 2022-2027 13m (+ bonus) p/y
Iñigo Martinez 2023-2025 9.4m p/y

I understand why these players won't leave the club, because nobody will ever pay them nearly as much as we do.

Ansu was a prodigy, hailed a generational talent before his ACL tore a million times. Lenglet had everyone fooled after his stint at Sevlla, convincing the world that he was the next Pique in the making.
Torres scored a hattrick against Germany once a million years ago.
Inigos contract got mixed up with the one he would've got if he had signed back when he was any good (10 years or so ago).

The first three examples + Garcia are free agents.

All football clubs have a practice where a free agent receives some kind of bonus. This bonus comes either as a signing bonus or as part of your salary.

For example, Alaba now receives 22 million euros in Real Madrid. Obviously, this salary is much higher than the market one, but 25% of this salary is the same bonus for loyalty.

Memphis, Kessie, Christesen, Garcia, Inigo - they all came as free agents.

---------------------------------

As for Raphinha. You are making an incorrect comparison. Yes, in Leeds he received 4 million, but how much were the teams (Arsenal, Chealsea, Bayern, etc.... we are not talking about competitors like al-Hilal, al-Nasr, etc.) that competed with us for his transfer willing to pay him?

Let's take Olise for example. If we take the status of Raphinha two years ago and now the status of Olise, they are approximately equal.

Olise received 2.8 million euros before the 2023-2024 season at Crystal Palace, in the 2023-2024 season his salary increased to 6 million euros, he moved to Bayern and now his salary is more than Raphinha’s in Barcelona. Olise's salary is 13.5 million euros.

Kounde - again your comparisons are absurd. We have to look at how much were the teams that competed with us for his transfer willing to pay him?

For example, Arsenal pays Saliba 5.5 million euros net.

We pay Kunde 6.6 million euros net.
The difference is only 1 million euros.

Eric Garcia - you are again making a fuss, talking about 400% to cause confusion among people.

750k are the numbers from Eric's first contract with Man City. At the time of signing this contract, he was a player for the Man City U18 - U23 teams.

Man City were ready to offer him a new contract. But he refused to renew it. Obviously they would have given him 10 million gross, but it would have been 3-4 million. We gave 6 million euros. That is x2. But again, he transferred for free and part of his salary of 6 million euros is a loyalty bonus.

Ansu got his contract a year after his knee injury and had barely played.
Yes. He came back, scored a goal, the fans were delighted, there was this photo of the goal celebration everywhere, with Araujo lifting him up like Simba. And after some time he received a new contract. Mendes took advantage of the noise after that goal and did his job. This contract is one of Laporta's mistakes after returning to the presidency.

Big contract for Fati, big contract for 34 year old Lewandowski and transfer of Roque.

Therefore, I say that in the summer of 2025 we must approach the extension of Yamal’s contract with a cool head. Mendes will start his dirty deeds again.

I’ll add that I don’t like this idea of loyalty bonuses in any form - not as a direct payment or as part of a salary.
But this is the practice used by all clubs when it comes to free agents. I don't like it.

Now players prefer to sit until the end of their contract and then receive a loyalty bonus from another club as part of their salary or as a direct payment.

In addition, we must be more flexible when concluding contracts.

For example, Dias received 4.5 million euros in his first year at Man City; after a successful first season, his salary increased to 9.5 million euros.
