Fernando Torres

No thanks, this is Barcelona, not real Madrid. Barcelona really don't need to buy loads of stars right now. Cesc would be more than enough stars to bring in during this window if you ask me.

Barça don't need him, the club have just bought Villa, why spend on another world class striker? As I said this is Barcelona, a club who breeds success, not Real Madrid, who need to buy teams full of stars every transfer window.

you read my mind... his next post will say... well he is younger

And my next post will say, that Torres is more injury prone..he hasn't played 30 league games in 2 years while Villa has never suffered a long term injury. And my post after that will point out that Villa's skill set is the type that typically ages better than that of Torres, and that Torres, like Raul, was handed the keys to a team as a teenager and has a lot of mileage in his legs.

Very well put mate, fully in agreement.

38m isn't bad in terms of our spending but Liverpool wouldn't accept that no matter how desperate they are for cash. He's really worth 45-50m.

We should really just focus on getting Cesc which looks a much more likely deal to happen than Torres, it's the truth. Try again for Torres later...

Definitely mate, it wouldn't look good on the club would it? It would like Madrid a bit.

Mata could be sort of classed as a star, but if Ibra goes. That means Ibra and Henry out, Villa and Mata in. That's not bad at all, then Cesc on top would be good. Although Villa and Cesc are the only 2 big stars in truth, Matas a very good young player. But anything more than that would get a little stupid. If Toure goes, then a holding midfielder would be nice and maybe a bit of back-up for Alves at right-back in terms of injury and suspension?

And I will point out that Torres played 29 games in 07/08 and 41 overall that season. 48 games overall in 08/09 and 37 in 09/10.

Torres has had his injuries whilst playing for spain I might add and has had 1 major injury last season.

Torres skill set has improved since he moved from la liga. He has added another variety of skills to his game, plus his finishing and heading ability will never go away - like Villa. You never lose your finishing ability if you have always had that raw talent.

I also point out that Torres is more marketable than Villa - that is a fact. Therefore that adds to his price tag imo. You are not only paying for the footballer but you are getting his marketable abilities too, therefore we should get compensation for that in his transfer fee.

Your reply will be that villa is a better player, and whilst I am not going to argue with you as I can accept both arguments for each player, since he has come to LFC he has tripled in value since 2007 so £60m is my valuation. Simple.

If you think £40m will get him think again.

TBH i think our owners would sell for £50m.

A team that is out of the CL(therefore NOT a big team)cannot ask a world class player's actual worth...a small club must always take a hair cut.

*Don't get me wrong,I know Liverpool is not historically a small club(they are nothing but)but for the time being, and as long as its finances and Torres is concerned...Liverpool is a minor team.

So indeed the Torres affair is true and not just a rumour ... If the Club does get Torres in this season,it would be really sad, for a few things !! ... Bojan and Pedro would be at the receiving end, they would be benched everytime Torres is fit to play ... Infact not only Torres,if the Club buys any star striker, the picture would be the same ... thats really sad ... Barca doesnt need a striker, not atleast in this season ...

Theres something else also ... it seems the Club wants to completely dominate the Spanish National Team ... Villa, Fabregas, Torres, Mata, Silva and even Ramos (as Puyol has said that Ramos would be the perfect heir for his place after him); all of them have been linked to the Club ... I just cant figure out what the thought process of the Club Management is and especially what is Gaurdiola thinking, about the future of the squad ??

well he is younger and that does matter... the difference between villa and torres goal scoring wise is tiny you are not talking about buying him to play internationally you are talking about club level where torres is highly prolific

and "last years market" is the current market until you see players going cheaper than last year then thats still where we are.... i would give torres a value of around 50 million i think that would be a fair price

partially true but lets not forget barcas springboard to their current success was 2 season of huge spending from 2003-04.... who knows where barca would be now if it wasnt for that

If I were Rosell and was adamant on getting Torres I would offer 45m as the "bargain price" and if/when LFC say no, then go to 50m which I really think is the right price for him. But you all are right, it is not the right move. He would definitely fit in at the club in terms of ability and style, yes, but it doesn't work out in terms of we already have enough star players + our youngsters.

I used to really want a deal to happen since it would be awesome for basically my favorite player to have played at my two favorite clubs (and he is worthy of Barca so it's not just me being a fangirl) but maybe that could happen in the future instead of now. And Liverpool still need him badly, lose Torres and they will fall even further down the standings. So I hope that just because the Barca offer would be turned down doesn't mean that some other club like Chelsea would offer more and scoop him up... not what I want.
