Francesc "Tito" Vilanova

+1, this guy keeps going on and on about the 7-0 loss to berate Vilanova (as if the man did no good for the club, he just came off a record title win ffs) and it's getting quite boring how he's doing it in every other thread

Again, it's not just the 7-0 loss. Aside from the second leg against Milan, we've been shit in big games this season. You can't deny that.

And you know what the main problems were? Shit tactics and lack of motivation. Guess whose job those are.

Tito's failed at other things too. For example, his shit rotation, overplaying of players like Xavi, Puyol and Messi, which is what caused the injuries (which is why the "but he had an injured squad" excuse is BS), underplaying of youngsters like Thiago and Montoya, etc.

I mean, playing Messi for the full 90 minutes against fucking relegation fodder right after that game in Bolivia? And then starting him in a pointless game against Atletico right after he came back from an injury? It's Tito's fault (at least partially) that Messi got injured.

You can thank Messi for the league title. And our performance in big games this season has been abysmal and completely unacceptable. Especially considering the players we have. You can't deny that.

And he made it worse. No more pressing, etc. Not to mention he didn't fix the issues (didn't buy a CB, etc). We've been a lot worse in big games this season than last season, just compare our 2 CL semi ties. Last year, we completely dominated Chelsea and were extremely unlucky to not go through. This time, Bayern completely dominated us. And Tito was abysmal in big games, and the main reason we did so badly. Shit tactics, the team looked unmotivated, no/shit changes/subs, etc. The Bayern tie was a perfect example. Tito's tactics were shit and the team was unmotivated (it's also Tito's job to motivate the players), and as a result, Bayern dominated us and won 7-0. And Tito didn't do shit either, no changes (until we were down 4-0), no nothing. Just sat there and watched us get hammered.

Tito's own fault for shit rotation and overplaying Xavi, Messi, Puyol, etc. I hate it when people use this excuse. And don't even get me started on how he underplays youngsters like Montoya, Thiago (barely playing him even in the last 4 pointless games?  ), etc.

Why did Messi not win the league for Barcelona last season then? That is far too a simple way to look at things.

The performances in the big games has been poor for the most part but allow him the time to change that he has earned it.

Although you have conveniently missed out the Madrid games that Barca were outplayed in last season or the dropped points to mediocre teams that cost the league.

Tito did not make enough changes to the squad last season and tactics - which you can understand as those tactics and players had brought the massive success in recent years. Can you imagine how much stick if he had tried to change things and they won nothing?!

He kept it mostly the same and the issues in the big games under Pep towards the end resurfaced.

The big question this season is if he now feels justified in making the changes needed. If he doesnt then I agree get rid of him. But give him that chance.

Again, it's not just the 7-0 loss. Aside from the second leg against Milan, we've been shit in big games this season. You can't deny that.

And you know what the main problems were? Shit tactics and lack of motivation. Guess whose job those are.

Not shit in all big games - I was at the Barca v Real game in August and Barca dominated and should have won 4/5-1. They also dominated the first leg at Bernabeu in cup and should have been out of sight before they equalised.

Other than that you have the Bayern games where Messi and Busquets were not fit and the PSG games where Messi was dont at half time in first.

You cant ignore those injuries.

I don't like Tito as head coach. In Spain, when one of the two giants screwes up, the other wins the League. We lost 5 out of 6 points vs Madrid in La Liga and we won 1 out of the 6 big matches we played in the Champions League knock-out fixtures. 1 of 6? Laughable. Yes, we won the title, but we won it against Granada, Getafe, etc.

Champions League is a big competition, the biggest. You can't lose 0-7. It's not that we didn't make the final, it's that we were eliminated in one of the most embarassing ways possible. And that, with the team we have, is ONE MAJOR SCREW-UP.

Why all the hate for Tito? Give the man another season then lets start talking about getting him out, unless thiago gets transferred.

If Thiago leaves, Tito should be sacked immediately.

Tbh, I think he should be sacked for causing this whole situation in the first place. Plus, sacking him could convince Thiago to stay imo. Not gonna happen, but still.

I don't get the hate either, Tito did a very good job in his first season. Record La liga season, semi of cup and Champions league, outside of Bayern Barca had the best season in Europe. He made mistakes but that is to be expected of a rookie coach, the more experience he gathers the better he will become and the club will benefit from that. The performances of the team in the big games were poor but he was up against Mourinho, Ancelotti and Heynckes all of whom have years and even decades of experience and they got one over on Tito but that doesn't mean they will next time. He will learn just like all young managers.

If Moyes wins the premier league next season, gets to semi of cup and Europe does anybody think he will be sacked? I don't, that will be a great season and Utd know that every manager needs time and it will pay off

One thing holding Tito back was his illness which must have had a profound effect on him and there is no way he could have had his mind completely on his job and that is understandable. To go through that twice shows enormous strength of character that will stand him in good stead in the future. I have no doubt that Tito will be a great coach

I also think Tito has had to deal with the mess Guardiola left behind, Pep wasted alot of money on players that were not good enough like Hleb, Caceres, Ibrahimovic and Chygrynskiy. Pep saw that the defence needed fixed and of all the defenders he could have bought he chose Chygrynskiy. That is over 100million wasted on those 4 players, now the club got some back on sales but we have not had that type of spending spree since and we need it now more than ever. Because of the money Pep wasted Tito does not have the funds to change what he needs. It is also important to remember that when Pep took over Barca were just another team, when Tito took over they were the team to beat which made it more difficult for Tito as everyone now knows how Barca are going to play.

If Tito is given the funds to buy the players he wants this summer then I think he is good enough to lead the team to Champions league success.

On the Thiago thing, I hope he stays as he will be a great player, but if he wants to leave then let him. Xavi and Iniesta could have left in similar circumstances but chose to stick it out and prove themselves. If Thiago does not want to do that then the club will be better off without him. He did not play more because he did not perform well enough, if he played better when he got the chance then he would have got more minutes, he only has himself to blame.

Nope, Thiago is not to blame. He was severely underplayed this season. Especially considering Xavi's age and injuries. FFS, he played 1000 minutes less than last season. There are plenty of games in which Tito could have played him but didn't. Like the 4 pointless games at the end of the season, where Tito chose to play a 33 year old Xavi instead. And aside from a few mistakes, he's performed quite well this season. This situation with Thiago is Tito's fault.

Tito underplayed the other youngsters as well. Especially considering that their competitors were underperforming, Montoya and Tello (especially the former) didn't play anywhere near enough. Tito also overplayed starters like Xavi, Puyol, Alves and Messi (not saying he should have played drastically less, but he should have been rested in the game against Celta, for example. Would have prevented his injury imo) as well, causing injuries.

And our performance in big games this season has simply been unacceptable, especially considering the players we have. We got owned 3-1 by Madrid (and this was a far weaker Madrid side than the one of last season). We lost 2-1 to RM's fucking bench. We even got owned 2-0 by Milan. And, of course, let's not forget about the 7-0 loss to Bayern. The only big games we played well in were the 3-2 against Madrid and the 4-0 against Milan.

As for the league, thank Messi for that. Not to mention RM have been shit this season.

More chance of Messi moving to Swansea than the sacking of Tito.
