De Jong's ankle is still not fine. His return date is unknown and he'll not be available to Flick for the first games of the season. @fansjavimiguel

Contract negotiations with De Jong have stalled completely. While it's not yet certain that this is his intention, it increasingly seems like he plans to leave Barcelona as a free agent in 2026. @fansjavimiguel

Crocked and crooked.

'Poor Frenkie Didn't do anything wrong'? Seriously?
How can you guys be so gullible?

We are talking about a guy that sat on a contract after a criminal renewal he did with Bartomeu (BTW he, Pique, Lenglet, and Stegen were the snakes that negotiated individually behind the backs of their teammates with the board during fist Covid wave)
and ABSOLUTELY refused to help the club in any way possible during the hardest financial times.
- he refused to reduce wages
- he refused to extend
- he refused to leave on a transfer
He has been digging his heels for more than 2 years, while at the same time club legends have been forced out or waiving salary, AND the biggest legend of recent times LEFT because club could not register him.

And the guy has the audacity and nerve to say in interviews that 'he loves Barca'... GTFO

Unfair

Irrelevant if he is popular in the dressing room. They will find new friends when he leaves

No, this is not a strategy for any player whatsoever, let alone youngsters who are on very low salary.
We are talking about the highest earner of the squad in a time when the club is in financial crisis

The opposite is the case: everyone will get the message that the club can't be blackmailed or held hostage by the whims of any player.

Ah yeah.
'Labour rights' talk about people that are making millions...
The biggest legend left cause the Club couldn't register him, however, he still earned every penny from his previous contract.

Frenkie isn't under any obligation to leave and make things easier for the Club, as everyone looks out for themselves, both Club and player. He can't also say 'he hates Barca', or else he'll be shooting himself in the foot for the media.

Nothing is surprising with what's happening to Frenkie, we gave him a crazy contract and he wants the money (we'll see who wins between both parties). Hopefully, the clubs will learn and avoid issues like this.

Don't know if we can even use him as double pivot remembering how terrible he was defending.

Basically plays one position on rare occasions when he's fit and then with questionable input.

The issue is he is better DM sitting than any of the others.

If Pedri/Gavi/Gundo can do better by all means put them there... but I doubt Flick will think that.

Christensen is a stop gap and can't play there long term.

Frenkie will be fucking awesome at double pivot for Flick if his ankle can still pirouette. That's the greater worry.

Just like the upcoming Zelda game, Frenkie is the missing link.

Yeah, other options are even worse.

Double pivot is the way to patch it up but it didn't look in Gamper match Flick will play that way.

Flick has asked Barça management not to sell Frenkie under any circumstances. The coach considers the Dutch player as a key part of the team and will put him in the centre of attention once he recovers from his injury.

Shock...

He's the most natural fit at DM, so no surprise he's gonna be played their, that's where every coach as played him at Barca at one point or another, before realizing he's a liability there, question is can he flick change that.

So far the evidence suggest not, which is why a double pivot of him and Gavi is the way to go, gavi will make up for his general Hippie nature in that position.

That DP could actually work.

They play him there knowing it is not his best position but others are a bigger liability.

He is the best DM they have in both roles.. the fact he has to play the defensive role is on the others in team being weaker defensively.

FDJ is the one best placed to deal with Gavi being a headless chicken and allowing him more freedom no doubt while balances Gavis clear weaknesses on the ball to date.

Gavi and Gundo or Gavi and Pedri would be horrific against any decent side consistently

It will be FDJ plus one other when fit. No doubt.

Gavi first half away to Mallorca last season is best have seen him play that deeper role and he rates FDJ highly.. could work.

From the Sport article..
  • Flick sees FDJ as his best DM and it will be him and one other when fit - Gavi or Pedri.
  • Barca had Merino tied up and trying to sell FDJ due to him not renewing.
  • Flick stopped the Merino operation as not better than FDJ or what have in that area.
  • The club hope that Flicks confidence in FDJ can play a part in him renewing.
Veering towards Gavi as FDJ best placed to handle and balance with him but the defence built in way that can cover numbers in midfield and give Gavi the room to press and not be exposed when he is out of position or beat 1v1. Which is not so much a slight on Gavi as much as something that will happen if ask him to press like that.

If Gavi does not play DM with FDJ then dont see where he can play when others fit.

Then looking at Pedri AM starter and Olmo LW and Yamal RW.

With Ferran the Shark CF and scoring 40+.

I think our medical team blew it again with Frenkie. Unbelievable. You had the whole summer time to fix it and you blew it.

They butchered Ansu, now Frenkie.
